Such a good game. Curious to how intuitive the controls are on the deck though, I had trouble learning all the controls with a tenkeyless

I would also worry about text readability but still, I'm excited to give this a try on the deck.

Live and drink.

I've been planning to get in to this game for a long time, but haven't done it, because I got a bit allergic to this game type in the 80's and early 90's.

Maybe this a good time.

Whether Qud is a Roguelite or a Roguelike is up to the boys in Berlin. But it is very much an example of a "modern" old school RL.

I am more than a bit biased, but I would argue that it was Tales of Maj'Eyal that really started that trend. Rather than make brtutally hard bullshit in the vein of Rogue, they are games that are meant to evoke the feelings that the old school RLs had while improving modern QOL and design philosophies.

Qud has a major new player experience issue. The mechanics aren't actually that bad, but you kind of have to learn a lot of them during character creation (since it is not just a layer of paint on Forgotten Realms/Tolkein). But if you don't mind a few hilariously bad instant wipes and/or watch a "getting started" youtube, it is actually pretty intuitive and one of the best playing RLs out there.

And I think the upcoming 1.0 has plans for a proper tutorial?

Nice, I've been playing a lot lately.

Yeah. Have a long flight coming up and was wondering how janky the steam deck support for CoQ would be.

Imagine my surprise to see it is "Verified"

Yeah, works surprisingly well with controller. You'll probably wanna mess around with the bindings, though.
