Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Is it time to get out the pitch forks yet? Or does that not happen until crops are failing and we have no water..

Don't worry. The Philanthropist Elon Musk has graciously denoted one of his Star ships for the transportation of those without means. Random lottery eligible only to those with "compliant" or above social credit scores.

That's mighty kind of him

But, like, what will the shareholders portfolios look like?

Do you know how expensive tickets on the Musk Ship are? Invest appropriately people.

Do you seriously believe that massive crop failures, wars, deaths from heat waves, flooding, super storms and so forth are good for the economy and therefore shareholders?

Be sure to thank a conservative. Conservatives world-wide are supporting and defending the globe's biggest pollutors. Without conservatives, corporations would be properly regulated by now.

The Russian war of Genocide rejiggered the entire planets energy sourcing, and though we're decades past where renewable energies could, and should have already taken over for Fossil fuels everywhere, the old systems of profit couldn't rejigger themselves quick enough to benefit from the change, and so it's back to fossil fuels, planet be damned

Despite nice sounding goals, we've never been serious about actually stopping climate change.
