Tried to open !gardening@lemmy.world without success.

Access via https://lemmy.world/c/gardening works fine.

It's the ! Not being recognized as part of the link that's causing it to fail. Now, why the various apps have trouble with that, I have no clue. But every app I've tried has had trouble with it

It's part of Lemmy's custom markdown which is why I haven't gotten around to supporting it yet (or the spoiler tag). Probably the same for the other devs too.

It is, and even jerboa has trouble with it. This is why custom markdown is a hit or miss thing lol

Funny. Neither worked for me. Second link brought up this:

Top right three dot menu "About Community" brought up this, which is fine:

Your account is on Beehaw.org and they're currently defederated with Lemmy.world, that's why you're not able to view that instance on your account. I'm on Lemmy.ca and we're federated with Lemmy.world so it works fine for me. You'll have to use another account to view it through Connect, or view through your browser.

[–] GlassHalfHopeful@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yep. Exactly that. Didn't even realize the instance when I clicked, a habit I need to form. Although it would be really helpful if Lemmy reported exactly that. Something like "the content you are trying to view is on a federated instance."

I agree. Surely it'll be implemented in time. Both on Lemmy and Connect.

That format is not very reliable I've only had it work a couple of times, but if you type !gardening@lemmy.world into search you should be able to go directly to it

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !gardening@lemmy.world
