I thought for a long time that "materiel' is just a spelling error, but it means military equipment.

Most of the time ugh will be silent, however in some rare cases it’s used like in tough to make an ‘ffff’sound more like tuff. Interestingly tuff is another word (it’s volcanic rock usually, don’t quote me though I’m no geologist), and tuft is a whole different word all together (a ball of fibers, like a tuft of hair)

and this is why you learn by immersion, really the only part of language that's worth it to study from a book is vocabulary.
As an American trying to learn Italian, the pronouns and possessives confuse the heck out of me. They're gendered and dependent on groups and formality? Ugh...
