Doese anybody have any app recommendations for a rooted phone with lineageOS?

Things like: A proper file explorer A terminal if possible And apps in general that you can't use without root (i.e. power saver tuner(although it's possible without root))

Adaway of course, and wireguard via the proper kernel module.

I use:

  • Material Files - Root file explorer FOSS and no ads

  • Termux - Terminal emulator

  • GAppsMod - enable call recording in United States

  • ReVanced Manager - Spiritual successor of YouTube vanced, works for more than just YouTube

  • Substratum - theme engine, needs to be combined with a theme pack and most are not free

  • Swift Backup - backs up app data, calls, messages, etc to cloud. Can set it to use WebDAV, SMB, SFTP, S3, etc. Can also back up locally

XPosed / LSPosed

  • Dark eyes tricks - general system mods, mostly use it for "Power key to toggle torch"

  • Snap Enhance - if you need Snapchat to communicate with half of you friends you can nuke most ads, get download options, screenshot without sending a message, view chats without marking them as read, enable dark mode, and others I don't use

  • XPosed Edge Pro - let's you bind actions to triggers. I use it to get a Samsung like app drawer from the side of my screen, but you can bind keys, gestures, schedules, app states, just overall useful

Magisk Modules

  • AOSP Mods -let's you configure a bunch of stuff in near vanilla roms

  • Universal SafetyNet Fix - V2.4.0-MOD_1.2, allows banking and Google pay to work, as well as any app that blocks root. Add to magisk deny list

I use all of those things except GAppsMod, Substratum, and Swift Backup

What is the benefit of it over Neo Backup?

If I remember right, neo backup was in its infancy when I was looking. Will have to revisit. Swift Backup was already established

  • Minminguard as ad blocker (used with Magisk and lsposed)
  • Titanium Backup for real backups.

Both of those apps were abandoned years ago. There are much better options available now

[–] TheInsane42@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Until now I haven't found a better alternative then minminguard. (Although I had to switch to the 1.20 version another developer based on the older versions to get it to work on Android 13) It works in all apps, not just browsers. (and the non-browser apps are the ones I want to block ads in)

What would be a good alternative then to minminguard.

It stopped working for me years ago. Even the forked version did nothing. Do you have a link for a version that's working for A13?

I got it via this XDA post. (version 2.2.0, I was off a tad)

I'm running it with the latest Lineage (20), Latest Magisk (26.3), Zygisk activated and LSPosed v1.9.1 (6990).

[–] K1nsey6@lemmy.world -3 points 1 year ago

That's the version I had tried before, but previously it wouldn't recognize lsposed. Now it does, so I'll try it again. Thanks!

File manager: Material Files, on a rooted phone it can access files outside of /storage/emulated/0

Terminal: Termux
