The "trolling" ban wasn't over neopronouns, it was for encouraging suicide on an alt account. Multiple times.

Also encouraging violence.

Yeah that Drag guy was a bad actor in my book, as well.

Apparently there was a huge deal I didn't notice? Had this person blocked because there constantly were (very obvious) troll comments that caught my eye and I started to notice it was always the same account. Went to profile, info text said like

Drag likes to "ride" dragons

Yeah at this point I just blocked them 😂

I bet they just wanted to test how long this would be tolerated on the instance

Edit: Also OP's only comments and posts all seem to be related to drag, maybe this is the next alt lmao

Damned if you do, damned if you don't

[–] megopie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 30 points 6 days ago

Got banned for harassment not pronouns. Simple as. Piss off.

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 35 points 6 days ago (3 children)

imagine explaining this irreparably convoluted joke to an ancient greek philosopher

[–] VinesNFluff@pawb.social 23 points 6 days ago

This post would instantly kill a medieval peasant

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I think they'd get it after a little supplementary media. I don't know how much they would approve of, but they would get it.

The opposite would be true for soldiers of the time. They would approve but they probably wouldn't get it.

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

i think plenty of greek soldiers were actually well educated iirc

I just don't imagine a dude who spent 20 years thrusting spears near the mediterranean as very adaptable or imaginative. They'd spend the first week in the future in shock.

[–] osaerisxero@kbin.melroy.org 5 points 6 days ago

Only if they couldn't find somewhere to thrust their spear 😏

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

like you wouldn’t spend your first week in the past the same way ;)

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

I'm in 2025 and yeah theres definitely some long term shock, crippling fear of the world.

[–] VinesNFluff@pawb.social 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Hey

They didn't just thrust spears

They also thrust their "spears" into their battle-brothers

Greek soldiers were SUPER GAY.

What I'm saying is -- If a lost hoplite ever found themselves in the 21st century, alllllll you'd need to do. Is point them to the nearest gym. They'd bond with the local queer gymbros and IMMEDIATELY feel right at home.

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

tbh I feel like Greek philosophers would be surprisingly chill about someone being called drag.

[–] VinesNFluff@pawb.social 4 points 6 days ago

One of them is only known to history by his literal wrestler alias, because he was a wrestler before he became a philosopher.

Greek philosophers would be more perturbed by the fact that we don't have slavery (/DO have automaton slaves for a lot of jobs but DON'T spend 99% of the day fucking around, and instead just keep producing more and more useless shit) than anything related to our jokes and memes.

[–] pixeltree@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 days ago

Can we please, please, PLEASE stop with the dramaposting

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I can't believe we're still doing this, I fucking hate social media

[–] KyuubiNoKitsune@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I don't understand why people get so invested in this bullshit.

Just for clarification: we absolutely should be respecting people's pronouns, I am exhausted about the whole fucking discourse about one user who is clearly a troll. We can respect the trolls pronouns but can we please shut the fuck up about the troll?

[–] Roflmasterbigpimp@lemmy.world 21 points 6 days ago

Drag is it you again?

This answers a lot and yet nothing at all. Thanks :>

[–] megopie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Drag’s a user with weird neopronouns and got upset when people didn’t use them. This started ‘discourse’ about not intentionally misgendering people just because you don’t like them, even if they use weird Neo-pronouns.

Also went around telling people to off them selves. Got banned for it.

[–] Default_Defect@midwest.social 11 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Half of this website bending over backwards to make sure not to accidentally use the wrong pronouns of someone who is clearly a troll acting in bad faith and encouraged suicide.

Wacky.

[–] megopie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 29 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Two separate things.

One is a matter of principle about not herassing people over chosen identities, regardless of how odd they are.

Another is them breaking rules that warrant a ban.

The second does not invalidate the first. And lumping the first in with the second devalues the second.

[–] sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

If a troll gets a kick out of seeing their preferred trolly pronouns used while being banned for other stuff, then that's a price in willing to pay to respect people generally.
