For those interested in trying out #Loops, you may be wondering: what are good tools or processes for making videos?

We go into detail with some of the tools we're currently using.

Hot take: short video format is kinda trash, even in a federated version.

Lukewarm take at best. It's cool if it's not for you personally, but a lot of people use it, love it, and benefit from it.

I think the stuff that Loops is building out could eventually become a standard feature that a lot of Fediverse platforms optionally offer. That kind of interop for the people that want it is frankly a win.

Use it and love it, sure. But benefit from it?

Think of all the skills you could learn! Basically any task that takes less than 60 seconds to complete!

TikTok have a length limit of 10 minutes. YouTube videos (proper videos, not shorts) on the other side seem to get shorter compared to a few years ago. The gap isn't that wide anymore

tiktok actually has a length limit of one hour now. i’ve seen hour-long reddit stories on tiktok

I've been loosely exploring this space for a couple weeks now. I got an fpv quadcopter this year and I was thinking about sharing some of my content on loops but I didn't know anything about video editing. Can confirm kdenlive and OBS studio are legit, still trying to figure those out. Would be nice to find a simpler editor I could use from my phone though. Please throw some recommendations in here if you've got them.

You might want to try CapCut. It's by ByteDance, used by a lot of Tiktokers, and some of the better features are behind a paywall, but it's probably one of the brightest examples of an easy-to-use mobile editor for Android.

I still haven't found a whole lot of alternatives to that. There's some professional-grade multi-track editors, and some rinkydink open source apps that barely do anything. Honestly, it's kind of hard to find a good balance.

I just wish you could see the wave form on the timeline. Ridiculous that it's not a default feature.

  1. Record something uninteresting.
  2. Add annoying music.
  3. ?????
  4. Profit!

I thought that most people were still not able to get accounts on Loops, like weren't they still rate-limiting to sth like 1 account per day recently - has that changed?

If nothing else, though, it seems like people might actually be posting OC now. When I first got there, it was like a single account blatantly reposting from TikTok, Instagram, etc. Like the 9gag of short-video content. Seems potentially better going back into it now.

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 5 points 2 weeks ago

I would not know - I still don't have an account!:-P

It's great fun watching them on !loops@midwest.social though.

[–] neon_nova@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

I don’t really mind someone reposting stuff at first just to get content on the service.

[–] deadsuperhero@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

They were for a while, but I think the process has opened up a bit?

[–] fxomt@lemm.ee 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What's the deal with loops? i have an account, and it's buggy, uncomplete, and not even open source/federated (Yes, i know it will be) But why release it so early? it's clearly unfinished.

[–] aasatru@kbin.earth 10 points 1 week ago

Social media needs testing like any other software. If you join Loops now, you're basically a beta tester.

Testing social media without users makes little sense.

There's also an argument to be made that when it is finally released properly, it's good to have some content there already.

I am a little concerned about the future of Loops and Pixelfed though. Developing things can be fun, maintaining them is a different story.

meh. not viewable via embedded fediverse links. its just tiktok with rss.

pass

I can't even get an account created because the website isn't functional. Downloaded the app but it's not doing me any good.

I'd love too, but they never send a verification email and the captcha doesn't work on the login screen for some reason
