Welcome to Cassette Futurism Lemmy and Mbin Community.

A place to share and discuss Cassette Futurism: media where the technology closely matches the computers and technology of the 70s and 80s.

Whether it's bright colors and geometric shapes, the tendency towards stark plainness, or the the lack of powerful computers and cell phones, Cassette Futurism includes: Cassettes, ROM chips, CRT displays, computers reminiscent of microcomputers like the Commodore 64, freestanding hi-fi systems, small LCD displays, and other analog technologies.

I own one of these. They are surpassingly more comfortable than I thought, but I have small hands. I was disappointed by the full “beige” one called Tofu, that turned out to just be peach instead.

holy cow it's pretty. I feel like the screen should be e-ink and not OLED though.

I think that e-ink should be way more prevalent than it is in this kind of application, it’s way underused

I love the idea of e-ink, but I think this specific application is a prime one for OLED. it needs to be self illuminating.

This. E ink is as useful as a book in the dark.

What exactly are you doing with a mouse in the pitch dark, without even the light of your screen?! That’s some next level pervert business

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

You don't have eyes in the palms of your hands like every lower demon out there?

[–] PennyRoyal@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If this wasn’t trying to be as retro, I’d be right there with you, but I’ve seen a couple of small e-ink displays that have almost exactly the same contrast as, say, printing onto beige plastic. I can read the writing on my aged-to-beige Keystep controller from the light of my screen when running Logic, which ain’t bright.

E-ink would definitely have looked cool as well on this, though most of the time you will not even see it since your hand covers it.

It does not, unfortunately. It’s really missing something for scrolling in the thumb areas in general. It’s the one thing missing for me that I have on my MX Master mouse.

I don't think you're talking about the same thing.

This is more retro than futurism tbh

The block keyboard + mouse combo is indeed cool. I wrestled a lot with going for their keyboard but ended up going with some other options. I will likely show some pictures later.

I really wanna get one of these for the hypothetical cassette futurism PC build I wanna do, they're super cool looking

[–] ApollosArrow@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

My whole desk is around cassette futurism. Keep in mind this mouse may be uncomfortable for larger hands.

[–] ApollosArrow@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It Is also missing a free wheel mode like my mx master.

Does it have middle click? You know, for Linux.

[–] noodlejetski@lemm.ee 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

my most frequent use of middle click is cross-platform - opening links in a new tab and closing browser tabs.

[–] model_tar_gz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I love selecting text on a page or different file then middle-clicking at the target for a quick copy-paste that bypasses the typical clipboard ctrl-c/ctrl-v pattern.

[–] ApollosArrow@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I will check when I am back from the holidays. I rarely use middle click anymore, but I will let you know.
