What's more Star Trek than joining the federation?

Incredible work, I'm so proud of this community! Makes sense that Star Trek fans would see the value of the federationverse

THIS is the kind of action I was hopeful for. I haven't had a reddit account in nearly two years out of principle, and it feels great to be able to geek out/interact with other star trek nerds online.

Do you Federation enthusiasts know that Lemmy developers are using Star Trek names for their testing instances?

I'm replying to a mastodon post, from a separate lemmy instance federated with startrek.website.

I'm living in the future.

What is this, the Mycelium Network?!

[–] Faceman2K23@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 2 years ago (2 children)

no sir. this is the federation.

I'm replying to your post on a lemmy instance federated with startrek.website, from another lemmy instance federated with lemmy.world.

Things get mighty confusing, but fun in their own ways.

EDIT: Also didn't realise that this was a Mastodon post, but that would explain why some of the comments have a bit of unusual formatting.

They should have named it startrek.federation

Not a valid TLD sadly

Are there any browsable backups/archives of Daystrom? There's a vast amount of content there which I'd hate to see lost.

[–] Corgana@startrek.website 3 points 2 years ago

It looks like they're slowly copying over all the old posts of the week to the new /c/

[–] Maturi0n@feddit.de 6 points 2 years ago

You guys are great. Thanks for the courage and thanks for coming here.

[–] gingerrich@beehaw.org 6 points 2 years ago

Absolutely made up about this. Star Trek and the related subs were the only ones I used by the end of me being on Reddit.

[–] FormerGameDev@midwest.social 5 points 2 years ago (2 children)

hey all! I see that /r/strangenewworlds is also going to remain in restricted mode indefinitely, would you perhaps reach out to the mods there, and see if they'd like to join the Federation? :-D

Welcome aboard, and pardon the space dust!

This is the lovable Star Trek spirit! β€οΈπŸ––

@Stoat @startrek oh heck yeah I'm in.

Did anybody save a copy of Algernon_Asimov's guides or any of the rest of the DI wiki?

[–] mav@hackers.town 4 points 2 years ago

@NotJeffreyCombs oh thank god. I always recommend the DS9 one to people who either missed it or tried and failed.

[–] jerrimu@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

The Bell riots are about to start on reddit, good to get out now.

[–] KazuyaDarklight@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (15 children)

Clearly I'm living on another instance, but I'm wondering is startrek.website community creation is locked or not? Feels like all the different Trek sub-communities should be hosted here. Show specific ones like Lower Decks, things like Star Trek Online, etc. but so far it seems like its just the big 3.

[–] Admin@startrek.website 4 points 2 years ago (13 children)

That's in the plans for the future for sure! (I'm the Admin for StarTrek.website)

I was fumbling around Lemmy instances looking for a β€œhome base”, frustrated when I couldn’t find anything I liked. Then I found this one posted on the Lemmy subreddit and was immediately excited!

Hit it!

If only for star trek purposes, I'm all in for this. More than enough.
