General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

Data centres as vital as NHS and power grid, government says

So I guess we're going to underfund them and treat the workers as mugs?

Nah, data centers need to be reliable to be profitable, the power grid can be ignored and only hurts those that can't afford battery backup systems.

Datacentres are indeed shooting up all over the place at an astonishing rate. I know, I'm involved in them. However I don't think they need such protection from the government - the companies building them already have enough money (and the datacentres themselves make a ton of money) that they don't really need handouts.

Much more vital because in the future people won’t be important

Hard disagree. We can all survive without data centres. The transition from having them, to not having them is chaotic (as crowdstrike showed), but I think 99% of us would benefit from our financial / credit records being wiped out.

data centres just ruin the environment; nhs is a fundamental right and need.
