Big brain tech dude got yet another clueless take over at HackerNews etc? Here's the place to vent. Orange site, VC foolishness, all welcome.

Brownlee, who will take us through “mind-blowing demonstrations of AI’s capabilities,” is a curious addition — he’s previously complained of his work being stolen to feed AI. But a big enough check is a pretty convincing counterargument. [Twitter, archive]

I’m disappointed but not at all surprised Marques is involved in this. I think he was caught by surprise by how popular his mildly AI-critical videos were, and this is him doing damage control and trying to get back into the grifters’ good graces.

his production equipment is way too expensive to be making videos critical of tech

I mean honestly 200-proof Yud is a bit much for me too. Probably a bit much for most people.

As someone who likes bunnies and sunshine I'm not even sure why I'm drawn to this forum so full of darkness but I just can't look away.

I like to think of it as concentrating that draw of the void into someplace less irony-poisoned and openly destructive than many of the alternatives. This way I can avoid spreading the despair into the rest of my life.

(in the voice of Zoidberg taking careful notes) "Avoid ... spreading ... despair ..."

I’d love to defend Oprah for her Blackness or her being a woman but she’s a billionaire.

The untold insane wealth. It’s like being a cop. No matter who you were before, the unchecked power renders them all the same.

Horrible people are horrible people. Oprah has been an enabler of corruption and scams for as long as she's been popular.

Article kind of covered it all. Not much I can add other than I can't wait for all these apps to pull back their pointless ✨ buttons

One thing I'm curious about is much of a mainstream trend signaller / kingmaker Oprah is these days.

She's still a go-to for celebrities who want to be seen as telling raw, difficult truths; Harry and Meghan obviously being the flagship example. They're surely trying to piggyback off that here.

[–] dgerard@awful.systems 4 points 3 months ago

That's a good question. But certainly she still provides significant hype.

Did ABC get AI credits to air this? Are they going to use said AI to justify laying off staff? Then use that money to pay Oprah?

@dgerard Matt Damon Super Bowl "fortune favors the brave" moment. hopefully (if unscientifically) that means similar downfall timeline.

Aww, how nice, Sam got his hair done professionally. And they gave him the Nimoy cut!
