Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Democratic country doing democratic things, you love to see it.

[–] Staines@hexbear.net 48 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Incredible, really. Why even pretend to be a democracy at that point.

[–] HamManBad@hexbear.net 29 points 2 months ago

They had elections, that's all democracy is. Actually doing what the people want is the biggest threat to democracy

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago

its democratic, they don't have power of 50+ percent shrug-outta-hecks

angle of attack "its the norms" is only good for radicalization, just as leaving macron to work with rn will crush rn, as that will make them establishment (unless they decide to show some largess to become hitlers, but rn is just as much of neoliberal piggies as macron)

And what do French citizens say about this? 💅

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 34 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Do you think 4chan gets jealous that the left, one half of all political thought that has been dead and irrelevant for decades is still more feared by the establishment than fascism? Hell, porky is hiding behind 4chan's legs like a scared little kid.

Do you live in the imperial core? Have you been made to believe that left political thought has been dead and irrelevant for decades? Are you a victim of the Great Firewall protecting fragile westerner opinions from the conflicting views of a billion Chinese netizens?

You may be entitled to financial compensation.

I deserve my goddamn xi bucks

[–] GaveUp@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

I get financial compensation just for believing communism is dead and doesn't work?

Hell yea, this is making me love capitalism even more

[–] someone@hexbear.net 26 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It is absolutely hilarious to me.

Though I don't think dead and irrelevant is quite the phrase to describe the situation. More like lying in a hospital bed after a brutal attack.

I'd compare leftism in the west to more like a dormant virus that occasionally shows symptoms, but is quickly and ruthlessly addressed because the host is a hypochondriac. And there's no vaccine or treatment of the underlying cause, because capitalism is the cause. I'm a very firm believer that leftist movements spring up then spread very rapidly, like a pathogen or something. The masses can "activate" within weeks sometimes. Movements that begin as maybe 100 people can suddenly explode into hundreds of thousands in just a year, or less. At one point the communist party of China had dwindled down to what, 20 people? And then around 15 years later they had seized the whole country.

I think Porky knows this, that the really scary stuff is uncontrolled widespread spontaneous discontent that coalesces into something more concentrated. That's why they're less afraid of fascists, because fascists will gladly play by the liberal rules.

Also yes I'm comparing myself to a virus

Capitalism is a virus, Leftism is the vaccine.

The patient is an anti-vaxxer that keeps winding up in the hospital after collapsing in public and then immediately punches the first doctor they see before checking themselves out of the ER and going to a homeopath that coughs in their face.

Isn’t there somebody you forgot to ask? guaido

[–] asante@hexbear.net 30 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

without looking at the article:

something something unite
something something far left
something something europe
something something democracy

[–] Beaver@hexbear.net 27 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's really funny seeing Macron completely backtrack on the one good thing he's ever done.

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 30 points 2 months ago

It wasn’t even supposed to be a good thing. All polling showed the far right winning in a landslide. Macron never wanted or anticipated a serious challenge from the left

So will socialists or rn fold to support porkies soviet-hmm

[–] someone@hexbear.net 24 points 2 months ago (1 children)

At this point I'm expecting a plain old copy-and-paste of 100-years-ago-Germany stuff.

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 19 points 2 months ago

bird-screm-2 Wow so surprising

Liberals betraying every ideal they pretend to subscribe to for the sake of political convenience? Well I never.....

[–] Eldritch@hexbear.net 13 points 2 months ago

But muh vuvuzela we condemn undemocratic practices 🤪

[–] HumanAnarchist@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I’ve been loosely following this but not really. Anyone have something to bring me up to speed?

[–] Tychoxii@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The left wing coalition won the last parliamtary elections. They should get one of their own as PM. Macron has buckled every historical precedent and selected a guy from his own coalition.
