MODERATORS

Image is of a colectivo: an armed group, usually operating in impoverished areas, which act to support and defend the socialist government of Venezuela. They are often derided as vigilante terrorist groups which prop up the government, because cops are only bad when they are socialist and not murdering minorities, I suppose.

Maduro's party, the PSUV, has won the election after a staggering amount of propaganda by the opposition, who said their polls suggested they were going to win and that Maduro's loss was inevitable. The reaction across Latin America is what one would expect. Left-leaning leaders are generally respecting the results and congratulating Maduro, while those on the right and/or are US puppets (such as in semirecently-couped Peru) are calling for recounts, or even that the election was illegitimate. The US itself is also unhappy about the results. We shall soon see if their unhappiness boils over into yet another coup attempt.

Personally, I think they should have ran Guaido again.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

China (PRC), DPRK, Russia and Syria also recognized Maduro's victory.

I expect Belarus and Serbia to do the same soon. Both Turkey, Brazil and Colombia said the elections were peaceful and they do not agree with the fraud allegations.

All the fed telegram channels have increased their output. You can tell something is coming because their staff teams are now online non-stop and outputting quadruple the content.

I doubt it's happening today, probably anywhere between 1 day and 4 weeks from now. It sincerely depends on the size of the "special operation" Iran intends to perform. If we're using the term the same way the Russians did then a military build up is necessary first followed by a deployment. I'm thinking it will be sooner rather than later because I can't imagine a deployment at all, the only way to deploy to Israel is through the Red Sea and that's where all the western forces are countering Yemen, they can't do it. So this leaves ballistic strikes which should be quicker to organise.

Unless someone can make an argument for how they're supposed to get equipment through Iraq and Syria?

Israeli police in conflict with the IOF and right-wing protestors

CW: SA
The Israel government has finally decided to do the bare minimum and interrogate soldiers suspected of commiting a wide variety of sex crimes on Palestinian hostages. The IOF and many right wingers are outraged at this, not disputing that it happened but enraged at the idea of the soldiers facing any punishment. This has escalated to protestors storming and then wandering around the military base where the Palestinians are being held, kind of a mini Jan 6th. No arrests have been made.

Lloyd Austin making some concerning comments… stating that the US will defend Israel “if Israel is attacked, we will help Israel defend itself”. That could interpreted in a bunch of different ways. I say “concerning” because Israel I’m sure has a very broad definition of what “being attacked” means. I’m 100% convinced the attack on the Druze children was a false flag, but conceivably doing a major offensive in retaliation could be considered “defending Israel”.

Are we entering the cool zone, comrades? I log off for a ~~week~~ decade and when I come back I find Iran finally ready to commit to a war, there's no way they chose the term "special operation" not knowing everyone would immediately think of the "special military operation" that Russia is doing in Ukraine, right? Such is the power of touching grass.

Not all westoids are sad about Yemeni sanctions against zionist-related shipping, Danish shipping giant Mærsk has adjusted their expected operating profit to between USD three and five billion, up from earlier expected profits of one to three billion as zionist-related shipping now has to take the longer and more expensive route around Africa, allowing shipping providers to extract greater profits.

The Danish-language article I got this from describes the situation in the Red Sea thus:

It is still not straightforward to transport goods in the Red Sea, where the Houthi movement in Yemen has fired missiles at ships several times over the past few months.

This description actively makes readers dumber by making Ansar Allah look like a group of cartoon villain terrorists who fires at random ships for no apparent reason.

The Undercover Policing Inquiry hearings continue to rumble on here in the UK. Amongst more details on what we already knew was this casually dropped bit of saying the quiet part out loud, when a spy cop is talking about his infiltration of the Stephen Lawerence Family Campaign:

"We're about gathering intelligence, not smearing individuals. That's a security service job. Let them do that."

Followed by mild panic from the officer, questioner, and them cutting the livestream.

PAGINA 12 - Nicolás Maduro against Javier Milei: "Fascist, ugly, stupid, coward. You can't stand for one round against me"

After proclaiming his victory in the elections and amid questions from the opposition, Maduro dedicated part of his speech to confronting Milei.

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, accepted the game proposed by the Argentine government and responded to Javier Milei during the speech in which he announced his electoral victory. "From Caracas I say: no to Milei's Nazi fascism. He has the face of a monster, too. He's ugly, stupid. You can't stand against me for one round, you cowardly insect," the Bolivarian president dedicated to Milei, who hours before had conceded the electoral victory to the Venezuelan opposition and called for "the Armed Forces this time to defend democracy and the popular will."

"You are a complete fascist. These people have already said no to savage capitalism, no to fascism, no to Milei, no to Milei's Nazi fascism. We are giving an example to the world," said Maduro in the early hours of Caracas, after giving to know the official figures that left him the winner with 51 percent of the votes; figure that is yet to be recognized by the opposition led by the candidate Edmundo González Urrutia (44 percent), under the wing of María Corina Machado.

What's that saying "ownership is 9/10 possession"? Maduro needs to do that. Do what USA republicans did with Bush v Gore. Announce that the election is OVER AND DONE! Look into the camera and say "any further questions can be answered by my t-shirt" and point to his chest (he's wearing a t-shirt that says MADURO WON) the croud laughs it's a hit on twitter. parenti-hands citations-needed parenti citations-needed parenti-hands

Venezuela’s authoritarian leader, Nicolás Maduro, was declared the winner of the country’s tumultuous presidential election early Monday, despite enormous momentum from an opposition movement that had been convinced this was the year it would oust Mr. Maduro’s socialist-inspired party.

The NYT's opening paragraph from its Venezeula article. A thing of beauty. The blue meth of pure ideology.

During the 25 years Mr. Maduro’s party has been in power, it has presided over an economic contraction unlike any seen outside war

big-honk

The election was being watched closely in Washington, which has spent years trying push Mr. Maduro from office, levying brutal sanctions in 2019 that have strangled the country’s already crippled economy.

he-admit-it

For a time it did. But in recent years, the socialist model has given way to brutal capitalism, economists say, with a small state-connected minority controlling much of the nation’s wealth.

Mr. Chávez swept to power in 1999 following a democratic election, vowing to remake a system led by a corrupt elite. Today, his movement runs a state widely viewed as corrupt, and his party’s leaders are the elite — and Ms. Machado and Mr. González had promised to oust them.

Are they trying to appeal to Trotskyists here?

France asks French citizens who are in Iran to leave the country “as quickly as possible”. The European country's appeal comes due to the “very high” risk of a military escalation between Israel and Iran following the assassination of the Hamas leader.

Lula da Silva and Joe Biden will talk on the phone tomorrow about the situation in Venezuela. Conversation was requested by the American government.

Will Lula say to Biden to tell Blinken to stop fucking writting about Maduro, like he did with Bush and Condoleezza Rice when they were attacking Chavez?

The Workers' Party (Brazil, Lula's Party) recognized Maduro's victory in free, peaceful and fair elections.

Diplomatic battles continue as the Venezuelan government breaks relations with Peru after the Boluarte government decided to "recognize" Edmundo González as "president-elect" (who recognizes that?)

Still, pretty ironic for Peru's unelected coup government to be spouting nonsense about democracy

Maduro should recognize Pedro Castillo as the President.

Fash channels are currently live reporting a "uprising" in the UK because someone set fire to a police station in Sunderland

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cnl0lkrxgvxo

This is starting to look like a contagion that lumpen are all jumping on up and down the country. The contagion is similar to the 2011 riots, a lot of the poorest in the UK using it as an excuse to go out and wreck anything and everything for a bit of a laugh. No goal in mind, just wanna smash shit up. They're falling in with the fascists acting as a vanguard but the contagion is roughly the same energy as back then.

Sharing a @yogthos@lemmygrad.ml post from Lemmygrad since I think it fits here too:

The Federal Reserve is now saying that the US shot itself in the foot with its export controls on China, as illustrated by Intel's recent staff layoffs.

Abstract

Amid the current U.S.-China technological race, the U.S. has imposed export controls to deny China access to strategic technologies. We document that these measures prompted a broad-based decoupling of U.S. and Chinese supply chains. Once their Chinese customers are subject to export controls, U.S. suppliers are more likely to terminate relations with Chinese customers, including those not targeted by export controls. However, we find no evidence of reshoring or friend-shoring. As a result of these disruptions, affected suppliers have negative abnormal stock returns, wiping out $130 billion in market capitalization, and experience a drop in bank lending, profitability, and employment.

Jumping down to the summary:

5. Conclusion

By forbidding U.S. firms to export to a selected list of Chinese firms for national security reasons, export controls aim to generate a selective decoupling of U.S. firms from China. We indeed show that they prompt a supply chain reconfiguration away from Chinese customers, both those targeted by export controls and those that are not. This broad-based decoupling of U.S. firms from China is not offset by the creation of new supply chain relations in other countries. Indeed, the total number of customers declines, potentially inflicting collateral damage upon the same U.S. firms whose technology export controls are trying to protect.

We indeed find that export controls impose significant collateral damage on the affected U.S. firms.

"We InDeEd FiNd" this phrasing pisses me off for no rational reason jagoff

We estimate a negative cumulative abnormal return of 2.5% and a decline in revenues and profitability following the introduction of Chinese customers in the export control lists. These costs ought to be weighed against the expected benefits of such measures.

Moreover, the benefits of U.S. export controls, namely denying China access to advanced technology, may be limited as a result of Chinese strategic behavior. Indeed, there is evidence that, following U.S. export controls, China has boosted domestic innovation and self-reliance, and increased purchases from non-U.S. firms that produce similar technology to the U.S.-made ones subject to export controls. We lack a comprehensive framework to assess the optimality of these geopolitical tools.

What no theory does to a mf

If national security is a public good, are these export controls a way to make firms internalize their negative externalities? Is it actually beneficial to penalize the same domestic firms that produce cutting-edge technologies? Some may argue that if the government forbids U.S. firms from exporting to certain foreign customers, it should indemnify those U.S. firms. This could be achieved by boosting domestic demand for the restricted goods, in what may look like an industrial plan to reshore or friend-shore high-tech supply chains.

China could be your friend shore if you could act normal.

In addition, export controls imposed by a single country, the U.S., may not have the desired effect since Chinese firms can potentially buy similar goods from non-U.S. firms. The benefits of U.S. export controls may also be diminished if they trigger an increase in domestic Chinese innovation or in IP theft.

Who could have guessed?

More research, both theoretical and empirical, is needed to better understand the costs and benefits of using economic linkages in the geopolitical arena.

good-morning

good thing i didnt stay on watch ...

okay so here is my "Dream" -Scenario .

-- , apperantly Iran is keeping complete radio silence with the USA , last time they informed the US of their Response ahead , now they are keept in the same silence as Israel. That makes sense with nethanyu doing it just after his returntrip. It seems that Iran is holding the USA 100% complicit , (they obviously are look ate the Media framing it and the Radio Silence on Isreal murdering the "Herold" it is Negotiating with in a Foreign country) . That makes the US Bases a very juice target for Iran .. they dont have much airdefense at all , they are just around the corner . And Targeting the US would finally put a direct cost on it for its unhinged Support , and end this stupid "Israeli Logo on the US Fist" game they play so succesfully..

Isreal has literally killed the man it was negotiating with , to the Loud Applause of the US Establishment , in their Countrys Capital , after its Presidents inaugration. A President that was "moderate" / "pro West" .. its sooooooo insane ...

Most War worthy Diplomatic insult in so many many years . ....

I mean we had wars over Buckets and Wars over "Emser Depeschen" ...
