Reviews say Grounded is far superior; I've played (and beat!) Grounded and it's amazing. This i haven't played, but it looks a lot jankier, from the videos I've seen. Has anyone else got direct experience with both to make a better comparison?

I've played both. Smallland is jankier, but supports more than 4 players. Boss fights in Smallland are easier.

The gliding in Smallland is pretty nice.

How do the quests and writing hold up? Smalland looks a lot more "WoW-like" in the quests to my eye; I was pretty impressed with the voice acting and writing of the quests in Grounded, and I liked how tightly the main storyline quests and progress were tied to character and gear progression. I was also super impressed with the level design in Grounded, lots of verticality and creative use of the "back yard" aesthetic in creating varied and interesting biomes and open-world dungeons to crawl.

I have to admit I'm just now realising I'm a bit of a Grounded stan 😂

Grounded wins hands down. Smallland's quests are very simple. The dungeon design is ok in Smallland, but not nearly as good as Grounded. It is nice to be able to relocate your base in Smallland if you build in one of the right trees though. Cuts down on travel time.
