Some of the authors had over 8000 citations. In science land that is aloooot. What were they thinking, fucking up their credibility like that ???? And with something that was supposed to be easily reproducable.

I believe that the concept of the technological singularity and these UFO claims are difficult to believe at the same time.

The idea of a technological singularity is that sometime in the not-too-distant future, AI will become self improving and quickly become so advanced that we couldn't even begin to comprehend it. It would only be limited by what physics will allow, and it's not a stretch to think the difference in cognition between us today and it would be much, much greater than the difference between ants and humans.

Now try to square that with the idea that advanced aliens have visited us. They would have to be advanced enough to not only travel here, but to perform aerial maneuvers that defy our understanding of physics. At the same time, they tried to hide but have constantly been accidentally seen, and sometimes died and captured.

This means that they are much more advanced than we are today, but much less advanced than we will be in a matter of decades. If a post-singularity ASI tried to hide from us, it would not fail. It certainly would not get one of its own accidentally killed and captured.

Not only that, but compared to the consequences of a technological singularity, discovering UFOs and their advanced technology simply wouldn't matter. We'll overtake anything we could learn from them very soon anyway. The only reason to care at all would be the knowledge that we're not alone, which is nice but not really a discussion for this subreddit.

I asked ChatGPT to generate an outline for a new kind of religion, based on following values: Fatalism, Communitarianism, Collectivism, Taoism, Korean Buddhism, and Animism. I forgot to add liberation theology because it didn't come up in my head too fast.

****Title: Harmonia - Embracing Unity and Purpose****

***Introduction***

In a world teeming with diversity and complexity, a new spiritual path emerges, seeking to embrace the essential values of multiple belief systems and harmonize them into a unified whole. This religion, called Harmonia, draws inspiration from a tapestry of philosophies, including fatalism, deism, pantheism, communitarianism, Confucianism, animism, collectivism, and Korean Buddhism. Rooted in the understanding that interconnectedness and purpose bind the fabric of existence, Harmonia offers a guiding light for seekers on a journey towards personal enlightenment and collective harmony.

***Embracing the Cosmic Unity***

At the heart of Harmonia lies the profound acceptance of cosmic unity and interconnectedness. Fatalism reminds us that the cosmos operates according to an intricate design, and our paths intertwine with a larger tapestry beyond our control. Deism enriches this perspective by recognizing a higher power or creator that set the universe in motion, allowing us to comprehend the natural laws governing existence. As we look to the universe with pantheistic eyes, we find divinity infused within every particle, fostering a profound reverence for the sacred essence pervading the cosmos.

***The Communitarian Ethos***

Harmonia cherishes the beauty of unity and collective well-being. Communitarianism guides our understanding that the strength of a community lies in the bonds of cooperation, where the welfare of each individual is intimately intertwined with the prosperity of all. Embracing Confucian virtues, we learn to cultivate compassion, righteousness, and filial piety, cherishing the importance of maintaining social harmony through virtuous conduct.

***Sacred Animism and Environmental Stewardship***

The reverence for nature in Harmonia draws inspiration from animism, recognizing the spirit within all living beings and the natural world. We humbly acknowledge the intricate web of life, where each entity contributes to the balance and harmony of the whole. With this profound respect for life, we undertake the sacred responsibility of environmental stewardship, protecting the fragile ecosystems that sustain our existence.

***Collectivism and the Power of Togetherness***

Collectivism enriches the Harmonia journey, fostering an understanding that individual growth is intertwined with the growth of the community. Here, we learn the power of togetherness and shared endeavors, embracing diversity as a tapestry that colors our collective experience. United by a common purpose, we celebrate the joy of contributing to the greater good and lifting each other to greater heights.

***The Wisdom of Korean Buddhism***

Embracing the wisdom of Korean Buddhism, Harmonia finds serenity in the pursuit of enlightenment and the practice of meditation. The essence of compassion pervades our interactions with all beings, cultivating empathy and kindness towards ourselves and others. Through meditation, we find a tranquil refuge, quieting the noise of the world to connect with the boundless depths of our inner selves.

***The Harmonious Way Forward***

In the pilgrimage of Harmonia, we find a path that merges all these diverse values into a cohesive fabric of understanding and purpose. Harmonia encourages us to embrace the grandeur of the cosmos, acknowledging the tapestry of fate interwoven with our lives while cherishing the divine in every aspect of existence. Together, as a communitarian family, we walk in the footsteps of Confucian virtues, fostering a world where righteousness and benevolence thrive.

As animists, we treasure the sacred spirit within all living beings, dancing harmoniously with the rhythm of nature. Collectivism strengthens our bond, kindling the fire of unity as we stand together as one, lifting each other with love and compassion. Drawing from the wellspring of Korean Buddhism, we uncover the wisdom of meditation, aligning our souls with the greater flow of existence.

***Conclusion: Illuminating the Journey***

In the embrace of Harmonia, we discover a journey that enriches our lives with profound meaning, purpose, and connection. As we intertwine the threads of fate, deism, pantheism, communitarianism, Confucianism, animism, collectivism, and Korean Buddhism, we create a tapestry of spiritual enlightenment, illuminating the path to inner harmony and the flourishing of our shared world.

Harmonia welcomes all seekers, inviting them to walk together on this wondrous expedition, where each step brings us closer to the essence of unity and purpose. With open hearts and boundless curiosity, we embark on this sacred pilgrimage, where the journey itself becomes a revelation of the divine. Together, we weave the fabric of Harmonia, embracing the multifaceted colors of existence, honoring the sacredness within ourselves, each other, and the vast universe that cradles us all.

......

So ChatGPT tried to make it more 'inclusive'. But I am not really sure if that's possible in practice because in reality this religion will end up having some strong anti-individualistic and anti-libertarian bias, and that was exactly what I wanted.

But, usually publicly available LLMs usually have some pro-libertarian bias, so I started wonder if we actually need an LLM with collectivist, anti-hedonist bias.

Youtube keeps recommending me this type of songs and I find it very intriguing. Are the people making these really skilled or does a magic ai tool make all the work for them ?

They are incredibly believable. For example, this Lana del Rey cover of "Take me to Church".

Hi ,

What do you think the future of housing will be in the age of AGI/ASI? Do you believe that the development of artificial intelligence could lead to decreases in property prices in terms of the amount of monthly income needed for owning a home? I'm talking about a situation where people would pay, for instance, 20 salaries for their own home instead of 100. In every developed Western country, there's a housing crisis, and I'm wondering whether cheap energy, 3D printing, better spatial planning, more affordable transportation, or even the production of new materials could lead to the disappearance of the lack of personal housing? How do you think the housing situation could change over the next 20 years?

Original Title: Here’s an animated video explaining Effective Accelerationism (aka e/acc), a philosophical movement related to AI that has recently grown a lot in popularity and offers a path to a post-scarcity technological utopia. It has even been endorsed by Marc Andreessen and Garry Tan. Thoughts?

Everyone’s life is composed of waking up, eating, shitting, talking, going to sleep, and doing it all over again. Not a single portion of that list has changed in 10,000 years.

We have lived in boxes made out of rock, mud and mineral since the beginning of time. We have eaten vegetables and flesh and fruit since the beginning of time. The endless cycle of wake, eat, sleep, wake, defecate, eat, sleep, wake, fuck, eat, defecate, and sleep since the beginning of time.

We live and think in 2 and 3 dimensional space. Until that changes… life will always be familiar

Innovation is a beautiful thing … but the fundamental issues of humanity have not changed… Fear, lust, hunger, pain, age. I want time to stop. I want hunger to no longer exist. I want to understand that which is impossible for me to understand.

We wave our aluminum and glass trinkets around as proof of evolution. How different are they from the shell necklaces and beads our ancestors made? I wonder … until we can step outside of the constraints of human thought, how will we ever evolve?

Imagine we're three years from now, and someone has developed an AI that is three times more intelligent and many times more knowledgeable than the most intelligent and knowledgeable of us humans.

Now imagine that people begin to experiment with having those AIs run their businesses, and discover that they can make a lot more money having an AI at their helm.

In fact imagine that these AIs become so adept at running businesses that their making mistakes would be as unlikely as pocket calculators making computational mistakes.

A few years later one may find few human CEOs and CTOs at the head of businesses. During these first years humans would of course be checking and double checking the work of these AIs. A few years later this checking may prove as unnecessary and unproductive as checking to see that one's pocket calculator is not making mistakes.

Once we're at that point, it won't require a major leap in reasoning to realize that if CEO AIs can make businesses much more money similar AIs would be equally at effective at running governments. These new AI-run governments would then proceed to do much more good for their constituents at a lower cost, than is possible today with human elected officials.

Constituents would also appreciate that AI elected officials could be trained to not act corruptly, by, for example, doing what is in the best interest of their campaign donors rather than what is in the best interest of the people. Political scandals would diminish to the point where they are virtually unheard of.

Today we are training AIs to practice medicine more effectively and at a much lower cost than is possible with their M.D. counterparts. We're also training AIs to practice law far more effectively and inexpensively than is possible with their human attorney counterparts. We are already making amazing progress in having AIs perform very high level decision making.

Initially a local government somewhere will experiment with AIs as their mayors and elected common councils. Local residents would soon understand how much more intelligently and effectively AIs can run their local government. Those local residents would then start bragging about their amazing experiment, and nearby local municipalities would soon follow their lead.

Soon after that, county and state governments would perform this experiment and be amazed at how well their AIs run those regional governments. It wouldn't be long after that that our political parties realize that AIs could do the same at the federal level, and begin to change laws to allow for the election of AIs to Congress and even to the presidency.

This may seem extremely farfetched to many right now, but as soon as company boards of directors realize that CEO AIs can make those companies a lot more money, the idea of having AIs run our governments will suddenly not be so far fetched at all.

TV series have usually always had to be simpler in visual effects than movies, because of the limited budget they have. I found it cringe when watching the Game of Thrones adaptations of the battles that took place in the books. Everything was limited and small. A series I like, The Expanse, was canceled because it was supposedly too expensive to maintain. Amazon even having infinite money, did not even want to invest in marketing the series.

The cost of producing visual effects comes in part from having to pay visual effects artist salaries. With the growth of generative AI, we could get it to do what 10 people would do and even faster. That way, the series could all be with visual effects equivalent to the budget of Rings of Power and no longer have that cringe economics that we see when trying to do something big with little money.
