Since RD made some changes to its API, lots of addons have stopped working with RD. So I have been searching for ones that are working now. I checked out the kodifitzwell repo and found that the Infinity addon hosted there is working.

The other addons that I have found that work are:

  • Fen light
  • Otaku

Might try crew next.

Otaku joins Fen Light as addons that are back working with RD.

Hey there everyone, I just wanted to make a post leting you guys know about a new community dedicated to the discussion and sharing of Kodi addons. Mostly streaming addons but any other addons are also welcome

If you have an interest in Kodi addons, or piracy on Kodi in general I recommend subscribing to that community, link to make it slightly easier !addons4kodi@lemmy.dbzer0.com, and if you have anything about Kodi addons you want to ask, or any addons in particular you'd like to share I encourage you to post there.

Looks like Fen Light shutdown sadly. I was noticing issues with trying to stream content. Ended up switching to Umbrella as that's a consistant addon I've seen and so far so good.

Hello,

I'd like a mini pc that I can just connect to the HDMI port, where I could watch 4K movies without the need to plug anything else on it except keyboard, mouse, or remote control.

Any recommendation for a mini pc like this or any disadvantage of doing it this way ?

Thanks !!!

Does a Kodi addon for YouTube exits, that doesn't need an API key? I don't want to create a google account. So is there an addon for Kodi that uses either yt-dlp or NewPipe Extractor to work?

I have Kodi installed on top of LibreElec on a Raspberry Pi. It works well, and I've installed the addons for Netflix and Prime. However, it's frustrating to use because the interface defaults are not great and changes to preferences are not persistent.

The default view is a list format. I'm sure some love that, but I prefer tiles. The default sort is nonsensical (I can't even tell what it is). I can set it to newest or oldest first.

But there is no global setting that I can find, so you need to set it for every interface. What's more, if you change these settings for an addon, they'll revert to the defaults the next time you use it.

Given the popularity of Kodi, I'm sure I'm just missing something. Can anyone give advice on how to set this up?

Thanks!

I'm looking to replace the default theme but whenever I look at repos etc, it's all just a swath of reskins of random stuff.

I want something that has the ability to add the smart playlists (like recently added) from the jellyfin plugin so it can show on the home page. But something that actually has a use-able UI.

Any recommendations?

Embury is by far the best one I've found but the filter/sort/options icons are too far "right" so if I want to change the audio language I need to press right 6 times, instead of pressing left once (no wrapping around). Or quickly show only unwatched EPs/movies.
The icons and text are also too small at 55" While I gripe about it, it's by far the best one I've found. I just wish it was more customisable to fix my gripes

Kodi (20.1 (20.1.0) Git:20230316-d8f3f99cc3-dirty). Platform: Linux ARM 32-bit

was not responding after start and the Tvheadend shown no channels at http://192.168.0.2:9981/extjs.html (later I have found the disconnected antena cable).

cat /home/xbian/.kodi/temp/kodi.log (for other OS log paths check here) shown some warnings and errors, which I have all pasted here.

When i have pushed any button on the remote control (control worked and TV led indicated contact), there was no log entry added into a mentioned kodi log.

"dmesg -T" not shown any errors. After rebooting over SSH (reboot now), it started responding after boot (weird that not under first boot and second yes). But it got no reply from TVHeadend HTSP client (no signal, later I have found it is disconnected antena ;). When i went to this addon configuration, it freezed with following errors in said Kodi log:

error <general>: Repository add-on repository.universalscrapers does not have any directory and won't be able to update/serve addons! Please fix the addon.xml definition
error <general>: AddOnLog: pvr.hts: Command getDiskSpace failed: Unable to stat path

error <general>: CCurlFile::Open - <http://127.0.0.1:9981/imagecache/2403> Failed with code 404:

Then i saw it moved to and stuck on a "stopping kodi" xbian screen. Since I have not updated a few months, i did command "sudo apt update;sudo apt upgrade" via SSH command line remotely.

it updated many packages, no "kodi" package, but "tvheadend" one

at the end of the upgrade process was:

initctl: invalid command: try-restart
Try `initctl --help' for more information.
invoke-rc.d: initscript ntp, action "try-restart" failed.
Setting up xbian-package-config-xbmc (20231115) ...
Processing triggers for xbian-package-config-xbmc (20231115) ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 fail2ban

(fail2ban has been installed by me previously and it never worked entirely, and removal is not working somehow), system rebooted itself automatically after upgrading.

After reboot, there still has been errors in the mentioned kodi log:

error <general>: GetDriveSpace: Add-on 'pvr.hts' returned an error: server error

and the screen detected no signal. After next reboot, the screen is ok. After next reboot with connected antena cable, these errors and warnings remains.

After researching all that warnings, I have this (highlighted items are unsolved):

Regarding first block of errors (DBus error: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs), someone says that there is no issue with it.

Regarding second block of errors ("Repository add-on repository.superrepo.org.gotham.all uses old schema definition for the repository extension point!"), I think i will have to contact repo admin or uninstall that repo/addons.

"POParser: missing msgstr line in entry. Failed entry", I have not found any solution to that.

Third block: (JSONRPC: Could not parse type "Setting.Details.SettingList") - someone says "can also be ignored, not skin related"

Fourth block may be related to PVR addons that i think are disabled and can not be uninstalled and has no updates. Weird.

Fifth block: (pyinotify ERROR] add_watch: cannot watch /run/splash WD=-1, Errno=No such file or directory (ENOENT)) - I have not found any solution.

Sifth/final block of errors is likely related to second block.

Okay, so I got a Minisforum S100. The experience has not been great at all. Other than the very long delivery time that kept changing, it finally arrived. I connected it to and booted the PC up. Windows was loading fine on it, and I got that installed initially. Browsing on it and doing very light work seemed to be okay. Now, when I tried to install LibreELEC, issues started.

For starters, it doesn't use NVMe but UFS storage, which causes the LibreELEC installer to not detect any devices other than the USB itself from which I booted. Unfortunately, I tried to install regular Linux on it with the idea of booting up Kodi from there. However, many regular Linux distros also do not seem to detect the UFS storage. I tried a few distros: OpenSUSE, Arch, and at last, Fedora, which actually detects it. Fedora even successfully installs, but right after you boot into the freshly installed system, it will complain that /dev/fedora/root and /dev/root are missing.

After giving up on using Linux, I went with Windows. I installed Windows 11 IoT Enterprise on it, which works after doing some regedit tweaks to disable the requirements. Windows installed, and all was working fine. Okay, then it was time to install Kodi on it, which went well, and even the Jellyfin plugin installed. But any video playback will just hang after the first 10 seconds of watching. Audio and subtitles work, but not the video. Just to rule things out, I installed the Jellyfin media player on it, and anything 4K will just stutter like crazy, probably maxing out at 10 fps when watching, even when the stream is 100% compatible with the device (you can see this in Jellyfin server).

All in all, I will return the device. I thought it was very promising, but the UFS storage and the very underpowered N100 make it unusable for my use case.

Hello everyone,

I'm planning to set up Kodi on a mini PC, but I'm unsure which hardware to choose, such as a Minisforum or an Intel NUC and which once. I have a very large library of movies and shows on Jellyfin, and I'd like to use Kodi with one of the two Jellyfin plugins to stream content from Jellyfin to the Kodi box.

I tried Jellyfin for WebOS 4, but unfortunately, it has many limitations regarding codecs. My library mainly consists of REMUX files. The box needs to be able to play 4K, Dolby TrueHD, Atmos, etc. Additionally, I'd prefer it to be somewhat future-proof.

Apart from that, I will connect the Kodi box directly to an Arcam AVR31 so I can pass on the Dolby audio to it.

I have a fresh install of Kodi, and I'm trying to install some addons, but I'm seeing unavailable dependencies for them.

These are all common dependencies, like plugin.googledrive, script.module.whatever, ResolveURL, etc...

Is there some sort of default repository that I don't have installed? Do I need to install these things in the OS I'm running Kodi in? Something else that I'm not thinking of?

Thanks!

I've got a very simple Kodi setup:

  • Arch Linux on a laptop behind the TV
  • Media files on a server upstairs, shared over NFS

I've been running Kodi quite successfully on this machine for years, but with the Omega update, videos play without audio for about 10seconds, then freeze. Sometimes if I wait a while, I see subtitles for the episode while the video is frozen. Music doesn't play either. The interface freezes too, to the point where I have to kill -9 it. Switching from Wayland to Xorg hasn't had an effect.

I tried deleting ~/.kodi and restarting, but nothing changes.

Has anyone else run into this?

I'm not a fan of the turns Open Subtitles has made toward monetisation, ad injection etc. โ€” particularly not considering the unpaid volunteer work that has gone into their offerings. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was their "AI" subtitles, though.

I don't know if they sincerely think what they're doing is related to AI, the results I've had the misfortune of downloading was subpar speech-to-text gibberish. And from what I can tell they're even charging for generating those.

So, as I ask in the title, what alternatives to Open Subtitles are currently available for Kodi? I've used Subscene in the past but the add-on stopped working โ€” or maybe I just need to look into the settings again?

This is a RCA remote I bought from Walmart. It seems to require a proprietary app. Has anyone had any luck with this device or similar devices?

Edit: it doesn't work with Bluetooth so no

Using 18.7 right now on my Nvidia Shield. I have to stay on this version for now.

I have some MKV files that use ~~OPUS audio tracks~~ AV1 Encoding, and KODI plays them as music files with no video. The files play without problems with VLC for Android.

Has anyone seen this before? Was ~~OPUS~~ AV1 support so new in Leia that the video player didn't bother with it?

EDIT: The issue was with the AV1 codec, which wasn't added to Kodi until v19.x (software), or really fully-implemented until v20.x

See my comment below for some additional detail

...where would I be without thee?

Been using it since around 2011, back when it was still called XBMC and running on an old laptop.

Installed Raspbmc on a Raspberry pi 1 as soon as it came out. Been using Libreelec for the last few years.

As my media needs have changed over the years, I've been able to use Kodi to meet them in different ways.

The best application for watching your media.

I still remember finding out about Kodi and remember thinking it was as amazing as VLC, except with an amazing library.

Since using it over the years, on multiple TVs, a couple raspberry pi via librelec I have since settled on:

Kodi, with Jellyfin add-on, over native paths.
I get the power of Kodi with a centralised metadata service. Finally I can watch something on one tv and have it sync onto all other devices.
