It’s been a while, here’s an experiment with the scanner and perpendicular rotation, the model is rotating on an office chair, very slowly, and the scan is from top to bottom over 2-ish minutes.

For context, this is a (rather old) Cullmann 2502. The head features a slot (30 x 5 mm) with two set screws on the front facing side (see other pictures). I thought it could be a mounting point for accessories but could not find any info online...

I'm a complete beginner with no photography experience but excited to get into it.

Budget: ~$500

Needs: High quality macro of all kinds (my main purpose for getting a camera in the first place). Secondary: portraits (full body / upper body). Tertiary to those is versatility for everything else as it's going to be the only lens for the foreseeable future. I'd also love for the lens to have all the latest features like autofocus and the such (if there's anything else).

I've done some research around macro RF lenses for R50 (ASP-C cropped sensor) and among the 24mm, 35mm, and 85mm it seems 35mm stands out the most for the above needs but since I'm on a tight budget, I need quality advice to make sure I'm not making a mistake here.

I know Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM is better due to 1:1, but it wouldn't be as versatile as 35mm and thus annoying to use for anything other than macro due to the effective 160mm on the crop lense, right?

I could theoretically get used lenses but it's difficult where I live. The EF to RF adapter would have to be without the ring (too expensive otherwise), and I might have real trouble finding the suggested proper older EF (or third party) lens. Plus, most used lenses here aren't much cheaper, even the really old ones, and I really doubt they'd be in good condition either. But for a really good recommendation I might consider it.

Hey everyone, I'm new to photography and wondering how much people spend on lenses compared to the camera body they're mounted on? Does it make sense to buy a higher end lens for a mid range camera, or would you be better off getting a slightly cheaper lens and spending some of the money on a nicer camera? Mainly wondering about used gear...

Currently shooting with my SO's D3500 when she isn't using it, and thinking of buying my own. Considering a used Pentax since weather resistant lenses seem easier to find for them than other brands...

Edit: how practical is it to use a Pentax lens on a Nikon with an adapter, and vice versa? I assume the electronics like AF and VR won't work?

I moved to linux about a year ago and have been putting off my photography for some time.
Im now motivated to get back into it and have been trialing some workflows and accidentally deleting all my pictures in the process, luckily I had a backup.

currently my workflow is to use rapid photo downloader, although I ran into an issue with that not being able to load some old dng images but they seem to work fine in darktable.

then I was using dark table only but I deleted all my photos somehow by using the import tool I guess incorrectly,

now Im using digikam for managing my entire library since it feels like it is much quicker than darktable at doing that, and with a selfhosted mysql I can use it on multiple machines, then when I want to edit I just have it open in darktable, but I dont see the edits in digikam afterward.

Or not, but there was an attempt!

After advising u/SurpriZe@lemm.ee not to point cameras at the sun, today I ignored my own advice. My excuse: the sun was barely showing through the cloud, was simply not bright at all, and I wondered if the disk might have an interesting look, set against out of focus branches.

When I got it home to look at I wondered about the spots on the sun, first thinking "my camera's dirty" before realising after a few moments: a remarkably good shot of sun spots for a hand held camera. The broader shading is strands of cloud.

I even had to check the configuration of spots was right:

Pure luck the cloud was just the right level of thickness, but amusing! Canon R5 MkII + RF200-800mm lens did help a lot of course :)
