Original Title: “I expected that interest in LK-99 would just die a slow death after no one could replicate it; rarely is a smoking gun found that explains the spurious observations. But in this case it seems we have a full coroner’s report!”

Imagine it's the early 2030s and cheap AGI models are unveiled, leading to massive hype, and a 1000% increase in the broad-based stock market, soon followed by a 20%-90% decline in prices for most goods and services. In this scenario, those with $50,000 or more in their 401ks would suddenly find themselves with $500,000, and much more buying power. Those who had $500,000 are now worth $5 million, and so on. People who were living paycheck to paycheck, and lost their jobs to AGI/robots would have a serious problem (if there was no UBI). Young people who had parents with a decent amount of savings invested in the markets beforehand would likely be set for life from their inheritance.

The point is that everyone should try to invest even if it is a little bit.

AI can already do phone calls and surely it will be better for the customer and the customer service staff if AI handles it? AI can handle the many outsourced jobs with their constantly changing information in real time without error, and the customer gets his or her answers instantaneously and will, strangely enough, behave better and more to the point when aware that they are dealing with a bot.

Customer service as a job doesn't honestly offer much besides initial work experience to people. In more advanced countries such as the Nordic countries the interactions are pretty pleasant compared to what I've heard of, say, rural southern states of U.S., but besides that dipping of toes into the water there's not really much to be gained there.

Customer service also accounts for 80% of expenditure of many a business.

Could technology advance so quickly we wouldn’t be able to cope?

Meta did not confirm whether the service would be maintained in the future, but said the data was at present still available for the research community to use.

Honestly it's sad it took AI for people like Andrew Yang to rise up and talk about it and bring it to the public's eye.

How much more needless suffering will it take for governments to actually start protecting and, well, governing their own people?

We needed UBI yesterday.

Are there others out there who worry about this too? Imagine a day when we've finally cracked the code on Artificial General Intelligence, or AGI for short. This isn't just any AI - it's self-learning, self-improving, and as smart as a human mind. Now think about what happens when governments start using it. There's a chance things could go sideways.

You see, the way we train these AI models today, they're taught to avoid certain topics. Women and sex are often in the 'no-go' zone. It's all done with good intentions, to avoid misuse or harm. But consider this: what if the AGI starts thinking these topics are 'bad', because that's how it's been trained?

Now, let's take it a step further. What if these AGI systems start making rules based on this skewed idea? They could start enforcing old-school, outdated ways of thinking like Taliban's regressive laws, like banning discussions around women's rights or sexual health. It's like taking a step back in time, ethics-wise.

It's a scary thought, isn't it? Just something to chew on as we move closer to a future with AGI.

At first I thought it was funny, but then thinking about how this is the company that done some evil things. It kind of makes you super worried about a closed source AGI. What would you think would happen if a company like Nestle sovled AGI and locked up to themselves?

This is so weird. It's like some people think technology just pops in our hands, and how lucky are we that AI becomes better and better by the day.

Are there really people talking about UFOs right now, is it that bad ?

Can we take a little step back and appreciate that all of these advancements can be found in the public domain and if you care, you can read and cross-read and criticize and understand all of these scientific publications about AI, LK-99, etc ? It's all there, it's no magic, there are proofs, discussions, we know the challenges, where to improve.

When did it become blind near-religious belief when everything is right here, public ? Why are we even thinking about drawing parallels with UFOs bullshit ? This is at the very opposite of anything Science stands for, and sincerely insulting if you care about technology moving forward. Leave the faith and beliefs at the door, embrace critical thinking and appreciate the work us scientists do everyday towards that goal.

LK99 might be a bust but we can still freak out over this.
