Plasma 6 Bugs

If you encounter a bug, proceed to https://bugs.kde.org/, check whether it has been reported.

If it hasn't, report it yourself.

PLEASE THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE POSTING HERE.

Developers do not look for reports on social media, so they will not see it and all it does is clutter up the feed.

So I've loved the minimalist aesthetic of Elementary's Pantheon desktop for a long time now. I even ran Pantheon (on Arch) for a long time but eventually the quirks and bugs got to me and I ditched it. I've now been using KDE for several years but still sometimes get the itch for that aesthetic again.

I've almost got my KDE desktop to look enough like Pantheon to make me happy EXCEPT for the completely transparent top panel.

image.png

(It's not so easy to see in the smaller image above, but the top panel is slightly transparent. Apologies, here's another screenshot showing it is indeed semi-transparent.)

I have adaptive transparency turned on so that the panel goes opaque with maximised windows all good. The issue as you can see from the screenshot above is that when there's nothing maximised, the top panel is barely transparent let alone fully transparent.

I understand this is from the theme I'm using (Breeze Dark).

I don't want to use Latte dock. And every single set of instructions I have come across about how to alter themes has either been outdated, doesn't work or says something along the lines of, "You need to edit the theme." but doesn't say HOW. I've searched for that too and come up empty - either outdated or doesn't apply to Arch.

Can someone please tell me (bearing in mind that I have Cognitive Impairment so breaking down the instructions is very appreciated!) how I can edit Breeze Dark so that my top panel is completely transparent?

Or if there's a simpler way to achieve this, please let me know! :) TIA!

As shown below, it appears that all Firefox tabs are just named "Firefox" within the volume mixer. This doesn't exactly make differentiating them very easy. Is it possible to make the volume mixer show the names of the tabs instead? If not, is there any feature in the works for this that anyone may be aware of?

Hello! on my EndeavourOS laptop I have firewalld running, and it blocks any kde-connect attempt to connect to my android phone. So I run

sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=public --add-service=kdeconnect
sudo firewall-cmd --reload

as suggested here, and it now works the majority of the time. The only problem it still have it that it cannot connect when the phone is connected to the pc hotspot (created from the network applet > hotspot). Unless I disable firewalld, it refuses to see my phone. How can I fix this? I'm not expert with firewalls, sorry if this is a dumb question :P

thanks in advance!

[Apologies if this isn't where this should be posted. New to Lemmy and figuring this whole thing out].

After watching my brother experiment with KDE for the first time, I was inspired to try a bit on my own layout. Mix of Win 11 / 7, GNOME, Android and ChromeOS. A little of everything as I think it's just pretty and works for me.

Absolutely love KDE! <3

This happened after an update went wrong and when I restart my computer suddenly some files have an icon and others do not. It does not only happen with Dolphin icons, but also with other elements of the system.

Going to Settings and resetting the theme usually fixes this, but at random intervals it happens again.

I can't really find any information on where one would submit a feature request for KDE products -- it seems wrong, to me, to submit them to the bugtracker.

I found this Reddit thread that seems to say that there isn't one, but that post is, as of writing this, 6 years old, so I'm wondering if anything has changed since then?

I can't seem to find any setting to enable automatic updates in Discover. Currently, I get a ping for available updates, nearly every day, and I then have to manually click "Update". I would much prefer for Flatpaks to automatically update themselves in the same way that Gnome Software does it.

I understand the negative sentiment that many have towards automatic updates, but, for Flatpaks, it's a risk that I am completely willing to take.

Update #1:

There appears to be a setting for toggling automatic updates in System Settings>Software Update>Update software>Automatically; however, it appears to be a known bug that this is currently broken with flatpak.

In this video I see that the top panel somehow stays visible when they enable the overview effect, but I found no setting to do that, is it because I'm not using Latte dock, but using the built-in panel instead?

New Arch Linux user running KDE.

My monitors will not turn off due to this KScreen bug. When the monitors attempt to turn off, they immediately turn back on and, because the monitors don’t turn off, the computer never sleeps. Across the net, this bug has been mentioned a few times. Disabling the KScreen2 service does fix the issue but my second monitor’s config is reset every time the computer is rebooted.

Does any one have a work around for this issue?

This week in KDE brings new #Plasma6 features, like changes to the sound theme and when sounds are played, you can now change your active power profile, and log in easier to captive portal pages (like those found at hotels and airports).

Hello! I noticed that konsole has problems rendering nerd fonts, while other terminals (I tried xfce4-terminal as referemce) works flawlessly.

as you can see, in konsole the triangle symbol has a tiny vertical line before. the font used is NotoMono Nerd Font 12, but other fonts and sizes have the same effect. Any idea on how to solve this? I found no bug of this kind on the web, only problems of not rendering at all these symbols. Should I open a bug report?

EDIT:
I switched from Fedora to EndeavourOS today (not for this reason) and here it works perfectly with any font. I guess I messed something in the fedora configuration. thanks to everyone for the help!

Hey all! Just switched from gnome to KDE and feeling a bit overwhelmed by the amount of widgets and customization available. Which widgets are your favorite that I should add to my system?
