Let me explain: When trying to create homescreen shortcuts to URLs, some sites only give you the option to "install" as a progressive web app and remove the normal (and sane) option to merely "Add to home screen." This has annoyed me for so long because, on top of this, there's no way to rename app shortcuts in Android, so for a long time I haven't created a shortcut to my skiff email inbox because it would automatically name itself "react-client," which is aggravatingly obscure.

Just now, it suddenly occurred to me that if I totally disconnect from internet and enter the URL, then Firefox won't know that it's a site that can be used as a progressive web app. taps forehead

Sure enough, I now have a tidy little link called (smartly) "Skiff Mail."

Thought this information might be helpful to someone. Hope you all have a Mozillarific day!

C'est fou quand même le manque de compatibilité des navigateurs avec la pseudo classe css :dir()
https://developer.mozilla.org/fr/docs/Web/CSS/:dir

Elle permet d'appliquer une règle de css différente en fonction du sens de lecture du texte et elle est prise en compte depuis 2016 par @firefox

Is there an extension that warns you when you are wasting time reading ai-generated crap?

Case in point, I was reading an article that claimed to compare kubernetes distros and wasted some good minutes before realizing it was full of crap.

I want to export my chats in Markdown and I don't like how bloated Superpower GPT is, I just need to download chats. I wonder if this has to do with the relatively new addon domain restrictions feature. I followed the instructions on that page to set extensions.webextensions.addons-restricted-domains@mozilla.com.disabled to true in about:config. The addon still doesn't work after restarting Firefox.

EDIT I love the dead "Learn more" link.

This is actually in the release notes for Firefox 118 here (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/118.0/releasenotes/), but it also works on Firefox 115+ (as is mentioned in the bugzilla page).

Things that are still missing for me:

  • being able to send 1080p video. I have a 1080p 30fps webcam that can only send 1080p video when using Google Meet in chrome. On Firefox, only 720p is available.
  • support for call control devices. I have fancy headphones that can e.g. unmute you in Meet when you lower the microphone, but registering such a device with Meet is only available in chrome. See https://support.google.com/meet/answer/12562325?hl=en

We will support HEVC playback via Media Foundation transform (MFT).

HEVC playback will be supported via the Media Foundation Transform (MFT) and WMF decoder module will check if there is any avaliable MFT which can be used for HEVC then reports the support information.

HEVC playback can only be support on (1) users have purchased paid HEVC extension on their computer (SW decoding) (2) HEVC hardware decoding is available on users' computer

For now, I'd like to only enable HEVC for the media engine playback, but keep the HEVC default off on the MFT. Because the media engine is an experimental feature, which is off by default, it's fine to enable HEVC for that.

HEVC playback needs hardware decoding, and it currently only support on Windows. HEVC playback check would be run when the task is in the mda-gpu, which has the ability for hardware decoding. On other platforms, HEVC should not be supported.

I use TWP - Translate Web Pages to translate everything to english. How can I get the same functionality without the extension on the new Firefox 118?

Between uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, ClearURLs, Decentraleyes, and Privacy Possum, I'm having a hard time deciding which ones I actually need and which ones I don't. Do they actually do different things, or are they largely the same?

I have about 25 extensions (almost all needed) and firefox lags like crazy, it's like I'm watching the videos at 10 fps. I download chrome to test it out and sure enough it runs as smooth as butter. Any help?

EDIT: It somehow fixed itself after I started using LibreWolf (with the same addons)

[SOLVED] replaced router (for another reason) and new model works fine somehow

Hey guys, my Firefox on Android cant open selfhosted services using DNS host names on home wifi.

I moved to a new place, got new router, configured server with new local IP. On PC everything works fine, but on Android Firefox I get "Address Not Found" when I try to open local hostname. Using IP:port works, but its been working fine before we moved. Chrome on Android works fine, desktop PC works fine.

Im running pihole and nginx proxy manager on server (I reconfigured pihole, but settings should be the same as before). I have set server IP in router DNS settings. I have set static IP for wifi network on phone and DNS address of server (I think I didnt need this before, but now it doesnt work in chrome without it). I have 2nd pihole on rpi4 as secondary DNS server on both router and phone settings, but its not in use yet. When I reconnect to wifi firefox can open the page for like first 20 sec and then it stopps working.

What am I doing wrong? Ive been using firefox on android exclusively before we moved

Due to resist-fingerprinting needed to be disabled to use the website appearance setting in @firefox I was searching for an alternative and found Dark Reader (https://github.com/darkreader/darkreader). I remember using it a few years ago and since then it has gotten pretty darn good. If you want to use websites without your eyeballs melting from the bright light, I'd recommend you to try Dark Reader out.

I had an idea what if we were to just like get a bunch of donations together pay for a bunch of shirts and full face masks with Firefox branding on it and Firefox colors Etc and also hand out pamphlets that would include the Mozilla ideas and then also like pay five bucks if you would do this at a Google event and interrupt presentations with witty comebacks on how Firefox is better and Google bad

I had a hard time setting up the new sync server for Firefox which is written in Rust because the documentation is very bad.

After a lot of try and error and reading comments of people in the issue tracker I finally was able to set it up and run it successfully.

Mostly for my future self, but perhaps it also helps other people I documented it with help of a README and a docker-compose.yaml which makes it easy for me to upgrade if necessary and also to store all the other config files with examples.

My Google search isn't working correctly. I can use a widget but then I have two search bars.

Any ideas

Hi! I was recently looking for Violentmonkey scripts to exactly fulfill the purpose of solving captchas automatically and I came across this curious extension which is also a Violentmonkey script.

Has anyone else heard of it? I honestly haven't at all. The extension itself is supposed to be completely open source and has been working really well for me.

To install the extension you need to head over to their Github and download their .xpi and be strictly in Firefox Nightly as (and this may be a problem for many) you need to disable an option in about:config to install unsigned extensions within Firefox Nightly.

Next, you need to install a package via npm called nocaptchaai-puppeteer that "simulates" human touches.

Then you need to go to their website and create a free account and put your API KEY in the extension and that's it, just click on the "settings" buttons inside the extension and you can enable them, remember to activate the extension with the top right button.

Now, the process itself to me seems very invasive as I need a package on my host machine and I need to install an unsigned extension and not to mention that you need to register with a real email, you can't use temporary or masked emails, but other than that it really works very well.

The extension itself works fine and has nothing that tells you "You need to pay to use it", as with the free API you can solve 200 captchas per day and in my opinion that is enough for anyone who uses their PC on a regular basis.

Obviously this post is not an ad and I have 0 relationship with its creators, also if anyone wants I can post in the comments a mini guide on how to configure the extension step by step, and if anyone is interested also here is my referral code, it is supposed that if you register with that we both gain more daily API uses but no idea, if you prefer you can register directly from their website!
