While I don't know Japanese law, and folks are right in US law about prior art, I think everyone is missing the point.

Companies like Nintendo don't have to actually win. They probably created this patent as a throw away to force Pocketpair to waste money fighting it. It costs tons of money to hire an attorney, work through the process, etc. It takes YEARS.

Nintendo probably wants to waste Pocketpair's time and money OR they're trying to get them to just settle and give Nintendo a cut of the profits.

That's how big tech works with tons of patents and how patent trolls keep leeching off society. I have a patent for a button, you have a phone you're making. I say give me 1% of your profit. What's 1% to you? You agree, we don't go to court and the next person that does it I do the same thing, but now I show them how many people agreed and that person is scared and think I have a legit case.

This shit is constantly happening in the background nonstop.

Patent law, copyright law, they are fundamentally broken. But they won't get fixed until something BIG happens.

Nintendo is and always has been a bully. This is just another instance of it.

It was a live stream I was doing with Owncast. Definitely enjoying it. Thank you!

Welp, I had no plans of buying Palworld. I've been playing Enshrouded instead. But I'll be picking it up now. Screw you Nintendo and your anticompetitive ways.

Wife just sent me this link. Considering Debbie is dumping buckets on us North Carolinians right now, it helps to know where flooding is and might occur. I thought this map was super interesting personally.

Everyone please stay safe! Remember, if you're driving and can't the road through the water, don't risk it.

Owncast is a free and open source live video and web chat server for use with existing popular broadcasting software.

Basically it's Twitch, or any streaming platform such as YouTube Gaming or whatever it's called now, that you can run on your own hardware. Control your platform and your content where you make the rules as to what you can/can't do.

There's a growing community and you can find folks streaming all kinds of things in the directory:

https://directory.owncast.online/

I know some folks think it's not possible to run something like that as it'd require tons of PC resources, but I've run an Owncast Stream with 70+ active open connections to the server on a $8/month VPS.

The install can be as simple as a VPS that will spin up an Owncast instance for you, or as "difficult" as pulling the Owncast script and running it and it just automatically sets everything up. It's probably the easiest software installation I've done in a long time and I've been in IT for 15 years.

I also run the !owncast@lemmy.world community so if anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to poke me there or Matrix or come check out a stream, I'm usually hanging out on someone's stream somewhere. :-D Or don't hesitate to ping me on any one of the platforms in my bio.

I LOVE this bit:

"will stop measuring its success in new subscribers, but in growth byr egional revenue."

We're hitting our self defined goals JUST fine guys!

A lot of GOP voters don't really care about facts sadly. I've talked to some that insist Jan 6th wasn't an issue.

Pays $40 billion to allow people to be shadow toxic. What an amazing innovator in our midsts. We're all just so jealous we wish we could be so genius ...

Fucking moron.

If anyone checked the filing presentation they literally put questions marks for their profitability. It was HILLARIOUS.

Telegram is giving away FREE Premium subscriptions! All they need from you is to use your cell phone as a relay to text out their OTP codes! And the recipient of the OTP sees your phone number! What could POSSIBLY go wrong with this deal?

PLEASE don't use Telegram! I personally recommend Matrix as it's totally FOSS, you can self host, there are tons of front end clients to choose from. Or even use Signal. I have my own issues with Signal, the fact they don't allow third party clients, you can't self-host, they have a proprietary shim in their stack that only they know what it does, they were pushing crypto, etc, but at least Signal is better than this garbage.

VideoLAN @videolan App Stores were a mistake. Currently, we cannot update VLC on Windows Store, and we cannot update VLC on Android Play Store, without reducing security or dropping a lot of users... For now, iOS App Store still allows us to ship for iOS9, but until when?

If scale is no longer an issue, why can't Epic create a store with similar functionality to steam? Because it's not about that. It's about Tim not being able to pocket as much.

We can thank US Government for FORCING these companies to allow you to freeze your credit report. It used to be a state by state thing, else you had to pay them like $10 to freeze and unfreeze, unless you had PROOF that your identity was stolen.

Especially considering Equifax had that little "oopsy" (they already leaked all your personal info) 7 years ago, you should absolutely 100% freeze your credit report.

YES you have to unfreeze it when you're needed to check your credit, but how often does that happen?

Honestly it's a great excuse to turn down a pushy salesman as well. "Well I really wanna buy this car, but I have to unfreeze my credit report first and my info is at home, so I'll be back."

And do you REALLY need that 10th credit card for get that $10 coupon for Khols? Nah.

It's a bit of work to set up, but once you set it up don't forget you get a free credit report yearly from each bureau. So space them out every 4 months and then check them yearly.

"Reddit has given access to YOUR conversations and posts to AI companies.". FTFY

These were created by people, for peoole, and I will ALWAYS disagree that this data is Reddit's or any other platforms.

Don't forget your direct messages aren't end to end encrypted on Reddit, so now AI will be trained on your craziest "private" conversations
