In the 3 years Hexbear has been around it has been attacked A LOT because obviously far right chuds have an interest in messing with leftists but has not to my knowledge had an admin breach. At one point image embeds were completely disabled because they were handing over data they shouldn't though and risked exposing people to doxxing.

Translation:

NOW THAT'S ENOUGH...

Faced with these savage hordes, asking for calm is not enough, it needs to be imposed!

Reestablishing republican order and preventing the arrested from being able to harm should be the only political signals to be given.

Faced with these demands, the police family must have solidarity.

Our colleagues, like the majority of citizens, can no longer suffer the dictate of these violent minorities. (lol)

The hour isn't for union action, but for the combat against these "harmfuls" (harmful people harmful elements idk) Submitting, capitulating, and pleasing them by laying down arms are not solutions seeing the gravity of the situation.

All means necessary must be put in place to restore as quickly as possible the rule of law.

The guard dogs order us to call for calm. We call for justice. Withdraw the legal action against poor Nahel. Hang the murderous policeman and his accomplice who ordered him to shoot. Leave the paramedic alone.

Do you hear the people sing?

A lot of the people that have come over aren't people who want decentralisation. They are people who don't give a shit but are unhappy with reddit.

They haven't learned WHY reddit is making this decision. They have no understanding of why IPOs and privately owned companies will always lead to this. They do not understand.

They are just people that want their content slop, but are also mad. They don't actually care how the slop is delivered to them they just know they want it and know they're mad at reddit.

The result is that they want to come somewhere else and behave exactly like it is reddit, when it is not.

Lmao what a stupid argument. If you want money paywall your content and see how many people really want to see it. You do not have the right to fill anyone's head with manipulative garbage propaganda just because you made a video about how much you love the second reich and want it to retvrn or wrote some shitty blog post.

People that call themselves CONTENT creators are the people churning out pure garbage for the bazinga-brained sake of contentcontentcontent and the quality of actually worthwhile shit would skyrocket if they would all just collectively quit because what would be leftover are the people who actually care and aren't in it for some ad views.

Artists, critics, musicians, designers, etc etc? They don't call themselves content creators like the bazinga-brained influencers in it purely to chase metrics. Tell the bazingas to fuck off.

No, I look at the evidence provided, speculate about what’s missing, and then ask why it’s missing.

But that's the problem. You're just speculating.

If I visit america and then speculate that everything I'm seeing is actually fake and made up by an entire country of fucking actors purely for the benefit of pretending america is something it's not you would call me utterly deranged.

Is it the best place in the world to live? Fuck no it's not. Its been embargoed and the subject of economic warfare for decades, not to mention the literal genocide of one fifth of its population that the US performed. Its behaviour towards the US should not at all be surprising given this history, they never want to see it happen again. Imagine if 1 in 5 of every person you know was firebombed and 99% of the buildings in your country were razed to the ground and then some white anglo fucks on the internet just make up shit about you over and over and over again.

what exactly is happening to the Uigurs? Is it consensual? How can I verify?

Now? Fuck all is happening this ended like 2 fucking years ago and liberals are still going on about it. What did happen? A very serious crackdown and education program that involved mandatory schools where people deemed "at risk" (of becoming islamic extremists) were forced into a 5 day per week (they went home on weekends) education program.

Shit was very serious, terrorism was a real and major problem, bombings were happening once or twice a month and shit was seriously ramping up. This was being imported over the border with Afghanistan. This all stopped after the program.

They were then shut down. The US then proceeded to get out of afghanistan, as it no longer had any reason to be there. Here is a video of Col Lawrence Wilkerson saying that the cia were planning to do just that., keep in mind this man was Chief of Staff to the Secretary of State at the time of this video, which predates the explosion of uighur content online. Prior to the US suddenly having such an interesting in the rights of Uighurs it is also notable that the US was literally bombing them.

are people allowed to disagree publicly with the government? Why or why not? How can I independently verify?

Sure. Average people do all the time just look it up on Weibo. You could also just look up the culture of protest in the country (extremely frequent, activism is high, just not activism to literally overthrow the country). Gov does not give a shit about whether the average person disagrees with the government on various issues unless you happen to be a celebrity or millionaire/billionaire. The government cracks down extremely hard on the bourgeoisie and its representatives.

If you're looking for more realistic ways to interpret the DPRK then I think you should look at things like food security figures, improvements in agriculture, or for living standards look at things like the smartphone market and percentage of ownership. 50% or more of the country owns a smartphone, 6-8 million have subscriptions to services. This kind of figure will give you something closer to an idea of what reality is without the mess of propaganda from all sides. It's the kind of figure you can relate more closely to yourself, and to where western countries were 10-15 years ago. Here in the UK for example 2003-2005 we had roughly 50% smartphone ownership in the country.

I didn’t say or suggest a single thing you just said.

Of course you did. You said that the defederating thing turns you off the concept of Lemmy, and you advocated for it to be not-a-feature.

You are advocating for centralised mega platforms owned by mega dictators.

The are two options. Centralisation, or decentralisation. That's it. There is no magic alternative. This is the material reality that exists.

If it turns you off Lemmy, then what you are advocating for is centralisation. The literal polar opposite of what the entire fediverse aims to be and exists to solve. There is not an alternative and there will not be. You either get one owner of a super site or thousands of owners of minisites that federate in order to be emulate a supersite without the oversight. That's it. There is no third-way.

[-] Awoo@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 year ago

So you would prefer massive dictators with a profit motive instead? Because that's the alternative you are advocating for.

The entire point of federation as a tool of decentralisation is to address the issue of Spez, Musk, Zuckerberg and so on. Massive corporate dictators of the internet.

The solution is to split up the massive dictators into lots and lots of smaller ones, who can federate with who they want to in order to make a bigger space, and ultimately provide you with the choice of which approach you like better. It ultimatley allows all of these spaces to shut out corporate advertising as well because if McDonalds ever makes a fucking instance everyone will defederate that shit to get away from the advertising immediately.

If you like the mega dictators better. Reddit is over there. I assume you do not, because that's why you left it.

[-] Awoo@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Wtf? Why are people upvoting this garbage?

Google, Facebook, Tiktok, Youtube, there are TONNES of "platforms" that literally ban porn content from being uploaded to them. What are you talking about? Not viable? The biggest fucking social media site on the internet does not allow porn, the biggest video site on the internet does not allow porn.

Redditors have seriously broken brains and only know how to repeat what they've read other broken redditors repeat and upvote ad-infinitum without every actually thinking for 5 seconds about how ridiculous what they're saying is.

[-] Awoo@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

As someone that mods on multiple 1m+ subreddits, this is not viable across hundreds of subreddits with tens of active mods per subreddit.

And it's not viable with the userbases either, many of them would go full scorched earth rebellion against the site. Reddit is trying to calm things rather than turn it into a massive thing.

If large quantities of users decide to wreck the site with spam posts there is very little that admins can do. Committed users hell bent on trashing reddit can do so in greater numbers than can be responded to. This occurred when /r/FatPeopleHate got banned (a sub that thoroughly deserved it but hey ho) when a lot of the site went into a rebellion against Ellen Pao. They remember this, and do not want to repeat it.

This post on Lemmy:

This post on Beehaw:

@lisko@sopuli.xyz's comment is not visible at all on the Lemmy instance while to me my comment is not visible at all on the Beehaw instance, nothing is showing in modlog though so I assume it has not been removed.

Am I unaware of a mechanic of federation occurring here? Or is something bugged?
