All my homies hate Billy Mitchell.

Haven't watched the video, but I thought it was proven that he was using an emulator on his 'record' DK run years ago? I'm pretty sure the company that certified his record imploded because of this too?

I think that's what he's taking to court this October, according to this video.

Is using an emulator not allowed or was it some kind of modded game?

[–] Atomic@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The problem is he claimed it wasn't on emulator. An emulator can do certain inputs that just isn't possible on an original machine.

It is as far as I know, proven that his run can only be achieved on emulator as you need these special inputs to do it.

Even if it wasnt emulated, the machine he said he used has a modded stick allowing for more directionality than an original machine.

That's what I meant with "special inputs". The stick he used could do 8 directional inputs. Where as an original stick can only do 4.

There are separate rankings for emulated runs versus original hardware runs. He (allegedly) submitted something as an original hardware run that was run off of an emulator.

Using an emulator, you can alter the game's performance, change the speed, set a save state and revert to it if you fail at something, etc. and then play it back and record that. There's no way to know if that's what happened, but the video he submitted does not show that it was recorded using original hardware.

Weren't both the guys from that King of Kong doc cheating?

Only Mitchell as far as I'm aware, in a quick Google couldn't even find accusations about Weibe...

I think there was an article saying one of his scores was disqualified because it was on a machine that had an emulator that wasn't allowed. Googling it, though, it seems like he's since broken the record on a standard arcade machine.
