Between War Thunder and Eve Online I have no idea which game I've never played has given me more entertainment? This is fantastic!

Having played EvE Online, you're getting more enjoyment out of that game than most of the players

At the end of it, I was just sad I missed the era of Rooks and Kings.

At this point, if you don’t have a dedicated intelligence officer camped out there, you’re not really trying. Gotta be careful though; they could turn them!

Next week on War Thunder.

"THATS NOT HOW THE NSA DOES THINGS AT ALL! See right here, paragraph 4 of subsection E on the surveillance of public internet forums, it states that under no circumstances should a federal employee disclose their identity, status or security clearance as a federal even if confronted with conclusive proof!

And I should know, Ive been a senior analyst for 10 years!"

Damn, again? Fuck it, turn the servers off at this point.

[-] Kbin_space_program@kbin.social 33 points 1 year ago

Kinda amusing that Warthunder is probably the best Russian Intelligence asset at this point.

This legitimately gets covered in security briefings. If you imply you know secret shit online, Intel agents will try to troll info out of you. It's just a newer version of the old spy strategy of going to bars near sensitive sites and listening for drunk employees bragging about their access. Then the spy just goes "yeah right you are so full of shit" and a shocking number of people will just start spilling.

Like, a person bragging about access is basically already violating security protocols and is basically 3/4 of the way to a leak.

This actually makes me wonder if some of these might be intentional. Like, if spy agencies know that warthunder has a reputation for these kinds of leaks, and know rival agencies will look at leaked documents posted to communities for it, why not pose as a fool bragging about knowing secret stuff and leak intentionally fake documents about the capabilities of your equipment, to mislead whoever might be watching?

A family friend worked for "the government" and "pushed papers" only answers I ever heard him give in 25 years of knowing him. I ran into him after he retired and I asked him if they gave him a big sendoff and he just said "My department doesnt do get togethers" and I wondered if he was hinting at something so I said "Glad to be done 'pushing papers?'" really leaning on the last 2 words And he smiled "I am, but I did push some really interesting papers in my time though"

And thats the closest I ever got to finding out what that cagey old bastard really did for "the government"

This was 3 DAYS APART from previous leak : wikipedia

Lmao jesus christ, again?

[-] HidingCat@kbin.social 17 points 1 year ago

At this point they should just reorg the business as a military information broker.

[-] CookieJarObserver@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 year ago

Ah Warthunder community at work...

[-] BeanGoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 year ago

How does this keep happening. >_>

[-] Krotiuz@kbin.social 18 points 1 year ago

Fundamental part of the internet, the quickest way to get the right answer is to post the wrong answer. Military nerds have a habit of being involved in militaries.

[-] NightAuthor@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

How many are we up to at this point?

[-] yeather@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 year ago

Sounds about right

[-] AliLunaCat@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

I've never played War Thunder, but from reputation alone I feel like it'd be way more notable/surprising if War Thunder didn't have any military documents leaked in a while

[-] FARTYSHARTBLAST@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

Classic War Thunder
