The optics of Musk addressing the room while Trump is disengaged are bad enough without simply making up things that are not there.

"Why is Elon Musk acting as the leader while Trump is disengaged" is a hard question for a reasonable person to deal with.

Saying "lol look at Trump sleeping" when that's obviously not what is happening, makes you come off as unserious and casts doubt on anything you say in the future.

Spreading misleading lies is not the way to engage with the world. (To those of you that are people and not disinformation bots/agents)

[–] crmsnbleyd@sopuli.xyz 11 points 59 minutes ago (1 children)

How is it obvious that he isn't sleeping? He looks like he's sleeping. Without the caption I would assume he's sleeping as well.

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 9 points 43 minutes ago* (last edited 39 minutes ago) (1 children)

His hands are very close together, he's looking between his hands and we know Trump is a social media junkie.

Without the caption you would assume he's sleeping because someone probably flipped through hundreds of frames of video to find the shot that looked the worst so they could post about it.

Trump, if you're to believe the rumors, uses stimulants and drinks a lot of caffeinated soda. He's not falling asleep in the middle of the day.

It's worse, he's letting an unelected man, the richest man in the world, who paid for his campaign, act as the leader while he reads Twitter.

Him merely being asleep would be preferable over Musk being in the room. Incompetent and lazy leadership by Trump would be vastly better than his simply handing the reigns of power to an unelected non-American.

That's the messaging that needs to be happening. All this is going to do is make the blue team laugh and the red team think the blue team is ignorant.

Meanwhile, Elon is taking a chainsaw to our entire government while we're too busy trying to score points on the other team (who are the people we need to be allying with to protect the US).

[–] crmsnbleyd@sopuli.xyz 2 points 30 minutes ago

I'm not suggesting people lie, but your messaging doesn't have to be completely true to work. That's how the red team got elected in the first place

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 points 57 minutes ago (1 children)

If optics still mattered, I don't think Trump would have won any election, let alone 2.

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 3 points 50 minutes ago

That's no reason to abandon truth and give in to rampant misinformation.

This picture makes me think of the boardroom scene in the movie Dogma.

[–] houstoneulers@lemmy.world 6 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

To me this picture says one thing: these reps and the sycophants that surround them were never representing the ppl. They just represent what keeps them, personally, in power.

🌍👨‍🚀🔫👨‍🚀

[–] DrFistington@lemmy.world 32 points 4 hours ago

Jesus Christ, every single thing to come out of his campaign and mouth was projection. 'Sleepy Joe' my ass. More like drowsy Donny, who's uppers are always wearing off

[–] TheDudeV2@lemmy.ca 51 points 4 hours ago (3 children)

What gets me about this photo is how fundamentally unserious the whole scene appears. The body language of nearly everyone, the lack of focus, the shabbiness of it all… just embarrassing. I’ve seen high school clubs looking more competent and serious.

I know this is just an aesthetics thing, but it gets to me. 🤷

[–] JacksonLamb@lemmy.world 1 points 25 minutes ago

Musk looks like the sandwich trolley guy telling people about the specials.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 16 points 2 hours ago

The body language just says "we're all here to blow Elon", except for Trump who is allowed to nap after a hard day of golfing.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 14 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

What you're picking up on is body language and that's not strictly aesthetics. It's sometimes even more important than verbal language.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 19 minutes ago

Body language predates verbal language by literal tens of millions of years so year checks out.

[–] Hazor@lemmy.world 17 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I mean, he's obviously just staring at his phone, but if this had been Biden then they'd have been calling him Sleepy Joe in all the headlines. :|

[–] JollyBrancher@lemm.ee 5 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

Obviously? No. There is no possible way his hands could be holding that phone. And we all know he is absolutely a 2-handing smart phone user. *Yes to the rest

[–] Jakeroxs@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I think he's got legs down there a phone could rest on.

[–] JacksonLamb@lemmy.world 1 points 24 minutes ago

He looks like an old man trying to take a dick pic.

[–] nao@sh.itjust.works 32 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

OT, but what do you mean "Sign-in Required" when trying to read the post on bluesky, weren't they supposed to be better than twitter?

[–] paequ2@lemmy.today 28 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

This user has requested that their content only be shown to signed-in users.

Huh. I guess that's a feature Bluesky offers. TIL.

[–] Probius@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

So the enshittification begins... I can't think of a single valid reason for wanting only account-havers to view your post.

[–] BigMikeInAustin@lemmy.world 1 points 23 minutes ago

This is a way to slightly make a block work better to keep away from stalkers. Yes, a stalker can create another account. But it does add an additional small speed bump.

[–] Moose@moose.best 17 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

It was just added recently, like within a week or so. At least it's the users choice unlike Twitter.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

Correct, I noticed the feature recently too. I'd imagine it's anti-spam (or at least anti-lurk?) but it's not like you can comment without an account.

I don't see a good enough reason to toggle that unless you're expecting a non-user to leak it to another platform to make fun of you (e.g. Lemmy) and obviously we're proof enough that it isn't much of a deterrent, lol.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 74 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (2 children)

He is really old, he'll be 79 in june. How many people that are that age, you hear they die, and you're like, "mmhmm, they had a long life." He should be at his country clubs being racist and assaulting women like all the other republicans. Retire, it's just a job man.

[–] Signtist@lemm.ee 47 points 7 hours ago

He did retire. Here he is asleep in his chair like grandpa after thanksgiving dinner. Musk's in charge now.

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 29 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

He is 2 years younger than my grandad. And I would not trust my grandpa to run the country. He is just too old.

[–] misterdoctor@lemmy.world 48 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

I would dead ass rather roll the dice with your granddad

[–] sdfric88@lemmy.sdf.org 29 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

I would rather roll the dice with my own granddad, and he's already dead

White House at Bernie’s

Ironic really that this is what we got. Bernie at White House would have been a lot better.

Sadly he could not ever run because he does not have citzenship nor has he ever been to the US afaik. He has been to Mexico though. Maybe that counts.

[–] BigMikeInAustin@lemmy.world 1 points 21 minutes ago

Only $5 million to get a “Gold” card!

[–] JollyBrancher@lemm.ee 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

He HAS been to the US then. The United States of Mexico.

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 124 points 8 hours ago (8 children)

While I have saved this for later distribution, it looks more like he's checking his phone. Either way, he's not paying attention.

[–] JollyBrancher@lemm.ee 2 points 1 hour ago

Obviously? No. There is no possible way his hands could be holding that phone. And we all know he is absolutely a 2-handing smart phone user. He can barely hold a 16oz bottle of water. Probably a 15.9oz at that.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 7 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

He's obviously looking at his phone. This isn't the burn the meme makes it out to be.

The real fucked up shit is the world's richest man addressing the Cabinet. In a fucking baseball hat.

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Yes, outrage farming misinformation doesn't belong here (or anywhere).

Engage with reality, don't cheer on lies because they're lies that you like.

It should be pretty obvious the kind of damage that can be caused by people living in alternative-fact-based realities.
