It’s funny how everyone commenting so far seems to have a different movie they remember her from. Despite watching way more Buffy, Harriet the Spy is what I first think of.

Crazy she needed a liver transplant and died so young.

I know her from several things (I didn't watch Buffy), but Harriet the Spy is also my first thought. I will always think of that movie when I see those damn black and white journals too.

The actress recently underwent a liver transplant and may have experienced complications from the surgery

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 26 points 4 hours ago

Transplants are serious business. Wouldn't surprise me if this was either the direct cause or a contributing factor.

Uhm, I think you mean Pete and Pete star.

Probably my first celebrity crush growing up.

Nona F. Mecklenberg

May her arm finally heal.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

IIRC her arm was fine she just liked the way it smelled and itched.

[–] dgbbad@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 hours ago

Definitely my first. I watched Harriet the Spy so many times. RIP

[–] zerofk@lemm.ee 47 points 6 hours ago

To me she’ll always be Dawn Summers from Buffy.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 13 points 4 hours ago

Man. I'm tired of getting old.

She's been on my radar since Pete and Pete. So basically my whole life.

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 25 points 5 hours ago

I literally just looked her up last week and she hadn't been doing too well in recent years. Of course the Internet being the shithead it is was heckling her for not looking like a pristine perfect celeb. I hope it wasn't related to suicide. Crushed on her hard back when she was in Buffy and Eurotrip and she always seemed bright and fun.

Damn! Not even 40! So sad.

RIP, Michelle.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 21 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

She’s been in a lot of iconic roles but to me she’ll always be Nona Mecklenberg

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 6 hours ago

I was always so jealous of her character having Iggy Pop as a dad.

It's incredibly sad.

[–] banazir@lemmy.ml 16 points 6 hours ago

Oh heck, did not expect to see this one. Really unfortunate.

[–] WhiteOakBayou@lemmy.world 16 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

How sad for her family. I liked her in party of five (?) and eurotrip.

[–] eddanja@lemmy.world 9 points 5 hours ago

Worst twins ever...

[–] Erasmus@lemmy.world 15 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Oh shit! I was looking forward to seeing her back again in the new Buffy - assuming she would do it.

[–] turmacar@lemmy.world 10 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Well damn. Weird way to find out there's possibly a new Buffy.

[–] x4740N@lemm.ee 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Also don't hope they fuck up the new Buffy

[–] hakase@lemm.ee 2 points 2 hours ago

Zero chance they don't

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 11 points 5 hours ago

My heart goes out to all of the people she loved and who loved her. For all that Dawn wasn't a character I liked, I never, ever doubted Michelle as a great actress. She deserved better for her life.
