Rules:

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source.
Posts which titles don’t match the source won’t be removed, but the autoMod will notify you, and if your title misrepresents the original article, the post will be deleted. If the site changed their headline, the bot might still contact you, just ignore it, we won’t delete your post.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials or celebrity gossip is allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis.
7. No duplicate posts.
If a source you used was already posted by someone else, the autoMod will leave a message. Please remove your post if the autoMod is correct. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners.
The auto mod will contact you if a link shortener is detected, please delete your post if they are right.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.
There's plenty of evidence that Trump knowingly employs undocumented workers at Mar a Lago, Trump Tower, and his other golf clubs and properties. So they'll go after him next, right?

Yeah I would love to see it, but we both know it's not going to happen. Otherwise the rhetoric would have been focused on them for the last decade instead of on folks just trying to survive and feed their families.
Why would we punish the criminal when the victims are so much more poor?

Yeah, it also appears to be just a little mom and pop shop that's hiring people from their community, not like some big corporate chain that's got dozens of labor violations going on
South Texan here, a lot of names are "non-white" (Hispanic), I mean it's as common as water for anyone to have a Hispanic sounding last name anywhere San Antonio and further south - birth or marriage (and marriage is common, and there are a bajillion mixed-race people/kids here). This incident is taking place in probably the most southern part of Texas, literally miles from the Mexican border. The chances of Hispanic last names being 90% of the population goes up dramatically.
I instead suspect someone ratted them out, a rival or hater etc. and ICE saw a way to make a news headline for Trump propoganda.
It would be nice if small businesses could get a "section 230" kind of protection. We should be able to hire anyone without fear of arrest. They are in the country, they should be able to be hired. It shouldn't be on the company to check citizenship.
I very much disagree.
The reason business owners hire people who aren't citizens is because they are cheap labor. Not only are they taking advantage of people who have very little choice in who will hire them and need a job to feed their families, they are not creating jobs that pay a living wage for people who are citizens. If your business model requires slave labor to be successful, then you shouldn't be in business.
Instead of criminalizing the people just trying to feed their families, criminalize the people who are taking advantage of people in a tough circumstance. It's not difficult to show that you did your due diligence in trying to assess citizenship.
yeah in the large amount of cases they know. contractors picking up the guys at home depot. restaurant owners who speak the language of the chefs that they get on the cheap. housekeepers. they don't think its citizens willing to work what they are giving them that is for sure.
If the IRS doesn't complain about discrepancies in a W-2 or I-9 form, they should be good to hire. But the article doesn't mention the IRS at all. I can only assume they moved pressure from the IRS to ICE so the "right" people get arrested.
