Activism works. Resistance works. People seem to forget this when we have a president who wears a different colored tie. This is why trump is worse at deportations than biden and obama. Its not for lack of trying.
Democratic presidents are smart enough to do the dirty work of the state quietly and with discretion. Which makes them much more effective.
If you know any undocumented people, make sure they know their rights, and how to resist regardless of who is in office.
bet trump wins if you look at cost per person though.
It's not about deporting people, it's about the show.
People are disgusted by Trump's AI video, but you have to admit that is some masterful trolling
Average Biden W, sadly
What win is this?
The Dems went as hard against immigration as Trump was in his first term, and what did they get in return? Cause it sure wasn't the White House, Senate, or House of Representatives.
Biden kept good relations with the courts and local police departments, had judges working on asylum claims, and deported people who were found to have invalid claims.
Once Trump destroyed the asylum and revoked their status, the people already in the country weren’t just going to go turn themselves into ICE, and local judges basically told ICE to fuck off, so now they have to go hunt people down, and news spread fast that they almost certainly do not have valid warrants, so just ignore the fuckers and they’ll leave. We’re probably significantly undercounting border crossings now as they have no incentive to register and ICE is busy elsewhere.
Viola: They just made it damn near impossible to keep up the numbers Biden had. Biden’s plan was to increases asylum judges so they could process the claims directly at the border. Trump thought Americans would just turn all the brown people in… Somehow.
Explaining a joke to the joker. Must be a day ending in Y on Lemmy, eh?
I assume he's waiting to get Gitmo up and running.
High quality sadism needs time
Border crossings are down like 90%. Folks are scared.
And because he is being so cruel, folks are much more likely to show solidarity toward immigrants.
Which is my way of saying I don't think the numbers are going to change. Unless the administration starts fudging. Which of course wouldn't surprise me.
They're actually sort of reversing course on Gitmo. They've stopped building tents, mainly because there just aren't enough people to put in them. Beyond that, the tents have neither air conditioning nor electricity, which means they fail ICE standards for detention (amazing, right?). There are currently only seventeen deportees currently at Gitmo, none of whom are housed in the tents.
It's all for show. That doesn't make it any better; it's worse in many ways.
I thought 20 million people were scheduled to be gone by now. Did all the planes crash before they got here to pick people up?? No. This idiot is just a liar. And he can't do anything right anyhow. But in this case it's a very good thing. We need to start helping people into the country. 50% of the ones we have now are fucking idiots.
Man, removing 20 million people from the US is going to be so devastating.
if he hears this he will just speed things up...
