Joe "I am a Zionist" Biden is pushing the world towards WW3 and it is all out of his allegiance to Israel. Wild!

Maybe more to his allegiance for capital.

Words are cool and all, but China hasn't even done the bare minimum of sanctioning israel yet. Even turkey has stopped trade with it by now.

China says it will take Taiwan back and that means war, so China will need allies. It is a happy coincidence for China that Russia and Iran are having battles right now.

Gonna need a lot more than some papers. It's unlikely China will actively try to stop the Genocide. As it completely destroys America's reputation on the global stage.

But if China wants to profile themselves as a leader in human rights they should sanction Israel.

I think what needs to happen is that Israel has to be sanctioned by the UN. If China starts doing unilateral sanctions then it's no different from what the US is doing. Even if sanctions are done for the right reasons, it's still the wrong approach. We need to actually use the UN to reach consensus among different nations, then act upon that basis. While the security council does have vetos, the general assembly does not, and that's where measures against Israel can be passed.

Didn't the recent UN vote about the west bank and Gaza include sanctions?

[-] yogthos@lemmy.ml 1 points 17 hours ago

Not sure if sanctions were explicitly mentioned or not actually. If they have then it would certainly provide a strong legal basis.

That's an interesting way of doing sanctions. What's worse? Cutting them off completely, or changing business practices to ensure you still get their money, but they don't get the product?

[-] yogthos@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago

it's pretty subtle

[-] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

The one is not the other

China is probably maintaining a front of neutrality while giving Iran economic support like they're doing for Russia.
