I am currently just using my hdhomerun though kodi and I didn't know if here was a reason I should pass it to jellyfin

I’m not sure there is a specific benefit.. but for me, as I transitioned from Kodi over to Jellyfin, I just liked the idea of having my library and LiveTV all collected and accessible through one client.

Yes, I am often looking sports from abroad (work) and there it is perfect to always have the channels I am used to.

Jellyfin has a nice interface. But, in my situation, there's no benefit for me, because Jellyfin Live TV does not support captions.
