"To me, it sounds as cynical as possible: by earning and paying excise taxes in the aggressor country, the manufacturer is trying to expand production and sales of its products in Ukraine," she stated.

Bulach emphasized that the Ukrainian government should respond decisively by stopping the company's investments in the Ukrainian economy.

"We have to make a decision and ban any development, and possibly distribution, of the products of these two tobacco companies in Ukraine," she summarized.

As Ukrinform reported, the NACP has added Philip Morris International and Japan Tobacco International, the world's leading tobacco companies, to the list of international sponsors of war, as they continue to do business in Russia.

The UK-based Moral Rating Agency, which alleges that Cornetto and another Unilever brand of ice cream, Magnum, continue to be sold in Russia, blasted the firm.

It accused company of helping Russian President Vladimir Putin invade Ukraine.

tl;dr: Russia is a terrorist state. Choose to reject sponsors of Russian terrorism.

At 4am on Feb 24,2022, it escalated its terrorism by starting a full-scale war of invasion and occupation against the free and democratic people of Ukraine; kidnapping them, raping them, torturing them, bombing them, dropping cluster bombs on them, dropping banned white phosphorus on them, enslaving them, killing them, threatening their existence & future with nuclear destruction, and commiting ecocide against their nation. Because that is what terrorist states do.

Even today, there are multi-national corporates who carry on their business as usual in Russia. Their taxes sponsor Russia's war, their resources including manpower are at Russia's desposal to use in their illegal war, they create products that assist in the iilegal war on Ukraine.
They sponsor inflicting death, pain, and suffering on Ukrainians.

They either value profits over freedom or they support Russian imperialism. Or maybe both, por que ne los dos?

They are a sorry lot, they're the the SoRI lot. We have created this zine to name the SoRI businesses, so we can, as civilians, act against Russian terrorism by punishing their sponsors with our wallets.

Since corporates value ther profit margin above all, we have the power to pressurise them by refusing to spend our money on their services and products. We can pressure them by spending our money on businesses that refuse to support Russian imperalism. We can pressurise them by telling them what we doing and why.

How we choose to spend our 2 cents will make our opposition or support felt to sponsors of Russian invasion.

Slava Ukraini!

While it’s impossible to be perfect on our own, when we’re in alliance and doing our best where we can, we can work together to reduce the damage of unethical systems and pressure companies to adopt more ethical practices. So this is a thread to bring those ideas together. What works for you to live more ethically?

I’ll start. My main interests are veganism and zero waste, which naturally go hand in hand with avoiding buying things. Here are some alternatives and resources I personally use that coincide with avoiding Proctor & Gamble:

You can avoid Hellman’s easily by making your own mayo. If the eggs squick you out, or you just want bonus points, I use this vegan garlic mayo recipe. It keeps for weeks and I don’t miss mayo at all. This requires a blender - any kind is fine.

Soap: someone near you makes bars of this that are better quality and sells them for roughly $5, I guarantee it. If not, making it is pretty straightforward as long as you follow instructions carefully and use established recipes. If you want to go custom, you can also use a lye calculator. This one requires an immersion blender.

Breyer’s/ice cream in general: Get yourself some xanthan gum for regular dairy, and add soy lecithin to your list if you want to do vegan ice creams. The xanthan gum inhibits ice crystals for a smooth and creamy texture, and helps with scoopability. Soy lecithin helps emulsify oil and water, so you can use it to bring up the fat content of soy or oat bases to be closer to a heavy cream. Requires a blender.

Gillette: get a safety razor. Mine’s a vintage lady Gillette I got off eBay. You will save so much money on blades it’s not even funny.

Lipton: your local grocery store might have loose leaf tea in the bulk section. If so, try that first. If not and you’re in the U.S., check out Arbor Teas instead. Small business, fair trade, high quality stuff, and the packaging is completely compostable, making it an awesome zero waste choice.

I also found this helpful website for when you do purchase something - it’s UK oriented, but covers a lot of global brands and looks like an excellent starting point for doing a bit of research before buying. https://www.ethicalconsumer.org/

Your turn. What works for you? All ideas are welcome, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. Let’s make ethical choices accessible.

The export of exhaust fuel from Russia has been decreasing since the sanctions were implemented – both in quantity and cost, and in June 2023 Russia’s income from this type of economic activity reached a minimal monthly index.

Western companies are withdrawing from Russia under public pressure, but not everyone is affected. Three American corporations, including Mondelez, Mars and PepsiCo have shown rapid growth of their sales in Russia. All of them managed to cash in on the withdrawal of more conscious competitors.

That's what Bloomberg reported, citing the companies' financial reports and Russian tax data. The more the trade volume and profits of U.S. corporations in Russia grow, the more taxes they pay to the Kremlin. And the Russian authorities use this money to finance the war against Ukraine.

Russia initiated aggression against Ukraine in 2014. On February 24, 2022, it started a full-scale military invasion to the Ukrainian territory. This brutal war and military crimes of Russian troops caused a humanitarian crisis in Ukraine with thousands civilians killed and millions becoming refuges.

As a reaction to this act of aggression, many international companies decided to leave the Russian market, while some others continue doing business there as usual. We track such decisions of companies and urge them to stop funding the war.

China’s largest oil and gas equipment research, development and manufacturing industrial group, Kerui has been listed as international war sponsors by the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP).

The decision was caused by the fact that the company not only continued to supply its products to the Russian Federation after the full-scale invasion, but also strengthened cooperation with the aggressor state, in particular, increasing export volumes in 2022 by almost 8.5 times.

The National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) listed Chinese manufacturer and supplier of video surveillance equipment as international sponsors of war.
